i have my eggs in my incubator in egg carton bottoms right now. i was wondering how i should position them at day 17, i assume they should come out of the cartons so the carton doesn't infringe on them hatching. can they be layed on the side or should they be propped up a little

I take mine out of the egg turner and put them back in the egg cartons point down.

so i can just leave them in the cartons and they will be fine. that's good to know. i don't have a turner, i turn them myself. i do plan on getting one before next time.

Yes leave them just like you've got them. I have incubated and hatched thousands of chicks in styrofoam cartons.
