Hi and welcome where do you live? Let me tell you my humble story and advice. I live in a suburb of Sydney . Lucky that the local council funds a fox spotting website. For about a year, I would close and open the coop house manually, every day, what a pain. One day I decided, it’s not worth it, the website shows very rare fox visits a few kms away. How silly I was. Some 6 months later I was woken up in terror amid the night by my chickens clicking mad. I knew instantly - ran out and saw the beast. It mauled one chook to certain death (I had to put the poor thing down) and the second one survived. I put an electric door. But I’m still torn by how foolish I had been. Never again.
So my tip is - learn about your predators, learn their behaviour, and be ready for them tonight! Because you will feel awful otherwise.
