Well at first read I'd think that was the thicker pieces of pus as pus is usually cheese in birds - it solidifies. Perhaps those formed and fell out today - which is good that they're not stuck in there.
The necrotic pieces need to be trimmed off with cuticle scissors rubbed with iodine and rinsed with alcohol before you use them. Can you get your nurse friend to come back and debride the wound?
removing the dead tissue (even if you scrub it - depends on the wound) then that allows good live tissue so that the granulation can happen. I wouldn't worry about the wound closing - I'd be glad it isn't. Granulation can happen on the exposed flesh. You don't want it to close.
And if it's still producing stuff inside, I'd keep cleaning gently with iodine/water (very thin tea color) for another day or two.
