Help. I'm a new chicken owner (10 six-week-olds), and I noticed the toe of one of my chickens seems to be broken. She's walking around with the others and eating and scratching (somewhat), but the toe looks not quite right compared to the other chickens.
I read through several posts with recommendations on broken legs and my initial plan is to take 2 pieces of a chopstick and use them to for a splint. Then tape up the toe and see if that will help her mend back to normal over the next 4 - 6 weeks. My wife already has a camera and light set up in the coop for extra "day light" past sunset. I plan to use the video feed to my tv to monitor if the others decide to pick on her while she's healing. If so, then I'll separate her for a while.
Any suggestions, recommendations?
