I am worried about the rest of my small flock as yesterday I had to cull one of my chicks due to a possible disease. I had never culled any chicken before as this is my first flock and it was horrible to see her twitch after, I dont think I'll ever get it out of my mind. Anyway, she had started with what looked like splay leg, I ruled it out bc she is on a good surface and her wings and neck rapidly became paralyzed that day as well. Her leg became paralyzed one totally flat and in front. She displayed heavy respiratory problems as well. I culled her and disinfected my coop with bleachy water. I am worried the rest of the flock will become sick, however I haven't noticed any symptoms. Any ideas of what it could have been? Thanks

Mareks usually affects young birds between 5 and 25 weeks old, but it is common up to a year, and can occur anytime if they are exposed by a carrier. Paralysis of one leg can be common, as well as poor immunity to common diseases, and many other possible symptoms. Here is some reading about Mareks disease:

Thanks for the reading. I have a pair of adult silkies in the garage separate from them in their coop, but they could be carriers and have had some contact with the chicks.
