So, my little Brown Leghorn started laying a few weeks ago. I got three eggs in three days and then nothing. I didn't think much of it since she is barely 17 weeks. I thought she might just be a little precocious and would start up again soon. Now I am beginning to think she is eating her egg. This morning I found a mess of egg white in one of the boxes.
Has anyone ever had a chicken that only eats their own egg? Ordering some of the wooden variety to have on hand for retraining.....

My Icelandic’s ate all their eggs, nothing I could do to stop it. I collected them many times a day ,

Was the shell there as well? Mine will eat the soft shell eggs, but leave the hard shelled ones alone. The only way I know there was an egg is that there will be the membrane remnants, or part of the white and yolk. Both of mine that are new layers have had soft shelled eggs multiple times.

My chickens eat my button quail eggs, when I don't want button chicks,do you give her any grit? Alot of people give their chickens eggshells,I'm no expert but I give my chickens oyster shells from Tractor Supply.
They have a bin of oyster shells. I think I'm going to get up at the crack of dawn and see if I can catch her in the act. What is interesting is that she only eats her own egg and no one else that I know of. And she eats every bit of shell. Might try feeding her up a bit and see if that is the issue- she could be protein hungry.

She could be laying a thin or soft shelled egg, easily broken and consumed.
You'd have to catch her at it to know, before the shell, if any. is eaten.
