Does she have any other symptoms? Could it be an injury? The swollen eye could be a sign of another type of infection.

You can gently flush the eye with sterile water and apply and antibiotic eye ointment or you can use antibitoc eye ointment. You can use the kind that is meant for humans. If all she has is the swollen eye then just be sure to keep it clean.

its both eyes. doesn't look like there is any injury. eating and drinking fine. after being able to spend some time with them I'm wondering if she has gone or is going blind. her eyes "cloudy/foggy" and she seems to be cautious when walking and stays right with one if the other girls.

It might be best then now to just to flush them out and keep an eye on her. Maybe put some antibitoc eye drops and see how she looks in about 24 hours. Is she very old?

she is around 12 weeks. can I just use saline to flush it and neosporin? also do I put it right on her eye or around it?

Yes a saline flush would be good. I would put the neosporin around the eye and over the closed eye. When she blinks it will naturally move the ointment around her eye. Like eggcessive said, look out for a respritory infection. You would need more extensive antibiotics to treat tht.

what are other signs of respiratory infection? thanks for your help!

I just now discovered this same problem tonight when I had to go into the coop to finish up the final touches on the egg boxes. Now I do not need to start a threat I can just follow this one.
