How bout a little entertainment while we wait...NO I'm not going to sing!!

I checked on the trouble maker this morning, and guess what? He's still still in the same position.

His membrane has turned a sickly gray color. I don't believe at this point it was meant to be. 48+ hours after pipping, and he's still alive. I am going to stay home again with my mom to see if we can stretch the membrane enough for him to kick out himself. Don't worry, if there is even the slightest sign of bleeding we have cornstarch on hand and will stop what we're doing immediately.

Now for some better news... His little friend is zipping like a pro! He'll probably be out in half an hour at this rate.

The kittens are doing well. We decided the best course of action would be to take them home and care for them until they're weaned, and then return them to their owner.

Wish me luck with that little egg!

I would like to report that the "surgery" was a huge success!

Turns out his membrane dried hard as a rock, keeping him stuck in the pipping position. It was gray because his wet feathers were showing through... Guess I still have a lot to learn about that, lol. My mom and I chipped away at the cap of his egg until it was off. We dabbed warm water on his membrane until it was finally wet enough to stretch off of him. There was no bleeding whatsoever! He pushed himself out of the egg once he was free. That wasn't the end of it, though... he managed to poo in his egg! The poo was stuck to his little cord, causing his feet to be all wrapped up. We got the poo off, and trimmed his cord to prevent picking. He's resting in the incubator right now, under my close watch. Hopefully he hasn't developed any neck or feet problems from being in that position for so long!

His little friend still isn't out, but he's working on it.
And no, I can't tell what it is yet! We'll have to wait for his feathers to dry, lol.
