Possible Guinea Eggs in "Quail" Batch?

Granny: add about a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to a gallon of water helps with the pasty butt. Sure worked for me. My chicks that is, LOL Got a month left to get the brooder done cleaned and reset for the chicks and to put some of the roosters back with the hens and dispatch the extra roos. Think we will try shooting them this time. Hatchet method was not a good thing. Will try to get pics up of the brooder when it is set to go.

hi scott !! vinegar hu? will do. i thought you already ordered chicks a while back? are you letting some sit? are you a good shot? hatchet sure sounds easier to me. lol i have a few pics. on my page now. a friend put them on for me.

i just read a few posts and didnt see a cause. my temps are dead on where they belong for the age with tons of room to move away if they want. this is my first encounter with it and they are store bought.

Back again. I did order chichs awhile ago. Delivery date is April 30. I will let a few of my hens go broody in a month or so. Hatchet method should work but my chickens seem to have rubber necks. It bounces back with out fully completing the task. Having to wack about 4 or 5 times per bird. Just doesn't seem very humane, also very tuff on the wacker as well. unless I have time to make a few kill cones then will go with that method.

i was having the same problem and i had a member here tell me the problem. #1 i was using a wooden table and its not hard enough and #2 i have the wrong hatchet. if you remember the older ones that are sharp just on one side and the opposite side looks like a hammer? those are a lot better.
