This baby was 2 days late hatching, he was only partly out of his shell last night, when I checked on him this morning, he was all the way out, but dragging his shell around. I wasn’t sure if I should cut the shell of or leave it, after watching him struggle I made the decision to snip it off. While I was in there doing that I noticed he has a rather large bump and his bum looks very dark. Any ideas on what I can do to help save him? We started with 6 eggs, 4 are doing great running around the brooder, one died last night while hatching(also a late Hatcher) the one from last night looked as though his insides didn’t go in all the way😢 I know loss is inevitable when hatching, but I want to keep it to a minimum. TIA

Aw. Can you post a pic of his belly? That is an unhealed navel, not a hernia. He probably wasn't quite finished absorbing when he hatched. Just don't let the other chicks peck it, and keep it clean. It will fall off on its own. Try not to touch it. He's a cute little baby.

He’s still in the incubator as I was afraid of picking
