thanks for the reply! I called the local farm supply and spoke with someone who is a chicken friend. She too suggested our girl could be a broody. she does puff up and make a squeaky growl when i get close. I got an egg out of the fridge and ran it under some warm water. We placed the egg near her and sure enough she tucked it right under her belly and cozied up on top of it. I will continue to keep a watchful eye on our girl in the meantime....just in case. I really appreciate your help and I am so glad I found this web site! Our "little Pecker" will deffinately benefit from it as well!
