Possible New Rule to ID Every Chicken

I talked with a lot with a local rancher, He says if the bill is passed he will sell all of his livestock. He could afford to have 2,ooo Head of cattle microchipped and registered. The way he saw it, He would have to register each cow twice, once for his ranch and once for where he takes them to graze all summer. I dont see where it states that but I could understand his point and his worries. If this bill were to pass it would wipe out a lot of long time ranchers. And this would truely be horrible. The already high prices for meat at the store would sky rocket, and we will be finding our selves paying a rediclous price for a bite of fatty hamburger. It would pull a already problemed economy down.

The way I understand, was that your friend would have to register any premise that he owned, leased, & borrowed for use of livestock.
The premise ID is another fee to be paid to the government.
Then as he moved his micro-chipped cattle, he would have to scan each one, send the movement report to the allocated agency for monitoring movement of livestock within 24 hours of moving them.

The cattle would be tagged once, but each piece of property that is not joined, will have to have it's own premise ID #.
Even if he leases a pasture with a fence between his & the leased property, this pasture will have to have a separate ID #, because it is owned by another person.
Right now, that fee is free...until the law becomes mandatory & then it is proposed to be $20.00 for a 2 year ID # for each piece of property. They haven't even finalized that fee yet.

Just some more information to think about.

Love the misinformation and such that invariably shows up in these threads.

NAIS drafts for poultry have the farm registered, not the individual birds. However, this only applies to folks that work with whole flocks. When you start selling or buying individual birds, the individual birds must be ID'd.

NAIS drafts have the provision for RFID tags, but do not mandate them, and acknowledge that the technology isn't sufficiently advanced for the proposed purposes.

The federal Real ID act (passed in 2005, it's law) mandates that states enact a federal identification into their drivers licence program, which includes RFID provisions. This is in the drivers licence itself (not the driver, just the piece of plastic). Colorado is one state going ahead full speed, other states, like New Hampshire, have told the federal government they absolutely are not going to abide by this law. How this will all play out remains to be seen when the compliance deadline of 2008 comes to pass.

Some people thrive off the misinformation and gossip. It doesnt matter if its true or not, its like a internet version of a soap opera that they get to participe in.

Some people are speaking against stuff they just now heard about and havent even read the proposed legislation.

I think the internet draws these people in because when people say these things in public, the public tends to laugh in thier face and they get sick of it so the anonymous internet becomes a sanctuary.
