Hello. One of our hens has what we originally thought was vent gleet. We started feeding yogurt, and a week ago she decided not to sleep in the coop during a 7 degree night (we didn't notice until morning). She seemed to take a bad turn that evening and we pulled her inside the garage to help keep her warmer, and started soaking in warm water and Epsom salt. She seems to only be getting worse. Now we are unsure if there is a prolapse or bound egg involved...but we cant feel an egg. She hasn't laid in weeks. See the pic taken today. The red blob is new today. The white cream is hemroid cream. We feel so helpless. Any thoughts are welcome.

Move this question to the emergencies section so you'll get some replies.
There are instructions at the top of that forum (example questions) that would be good for you to go over an answer.
The more information you provide the better the chances of being helped in an emergency. -and this IS an emergency.

Help! hen with prolapse

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

That is not Vent Gleet, that is Prolapse from a stuck egg and pushing too hard. If her insides have been out too long, the outcome generally is not good. You need to really sterilize her bottom and try to stuff all that back in. Use Prep H to reduce swelling, slather it all over that area and keep it inside her. Every time it comes out, stuff it back in. You might need to wrap her to keep it in. Keep her warm inside away from all birds and only about 6 to 8 hours a day of light to stop the laying. She will never heal if she keeps laying. Again if its been too long, the chances of saving her grow less.
