Possible vent gleet (or not) — What to do now

I would try to rule out a crop disorder. Some hens may be kept from the feeders by other chickens. It can be hard to know exactly without lab work, and sometimes we don’t know exactly what is going on until it is too late.

I've watched them closely. Today was the first I've ever seen my other hens behaving poorly towards her. I have eight adult birds that share the larger coop. They have a feeder in the coop, and a daily feeder outside of it. Four bantam Cochins, one Brahma, another EE, and an old Welsummer. I have not witnessed any food related bullying, but she is definitely not eating enough. I'm not sure if this is due to her neck injury (from the now dispatched rooster) or if there is something else internal going on. The neck twitching thing this morning freaked me out.

She died on Thursday night. I had her in my lap, she had a spasm, and was gone. I performed a necropsy immediately after passing. She was very underweight, but had an insane amount of orange/yellow fat around her organs. Everything was discolored. Her heart was light pink and spongy. I've never seen anything like it. The only thing that looked healthy was her liver.
In addition to her insanely unhealthy innards, she had quite a bit of compacted grass in her crop. The poor thing was all sorts of messed up.

You did everything you could. Sounds like she really was not savable
