sorry for your loss

I really don't want to hurry, but I think my parents will be sympathetic for my wishes for another pair of ducks if I ask them for my birthday..which is late next month. I hope I heal completely before then, and give the love I had (and still have) for Daffy and Drake to another pair <3

I had ducks as pets, and I haven't heard of chickens being as bonding or pet-like. I do love chickens though, but I don't think I have the tools necessary and doubt my parents will respond to that shift in interest. It was really ducks I wanted

I am really sorry for your lost...reading about it and looking at the pictures brought me to tears. I know when you lose something so precious it's difficult to consider adopting a new one, but remember there will always be someone and something needing to be loved.
Don't close the doors for new experiences before I read your post, I posted in my FB page, "If someone would have told me that at age 33 instead of having a dog or a cat in my lap, I would have a chicken, I would have die laughing."

This little girl came to me when she was 2 months. Two days after I got her, she was attacked by my brahmas and nearly die bleeding. I took her in and had her with me 24/7...almost 3 months since she was injured and she is healthier than any other bird. She has adapted so well to living indoors...I wish I could explain the bond we have, but no words exist to express it...just know that anything is possible if given the chance.

that is the most adorable little girl ever!<3 congrats, I hope I can get out of this grief soon and just focus on the goods times I had with my babies. It hasn't been helping much though when my friends and family call me about it...I can't even talk I just cry

So I obviously have had a close bird-bonding experience too. It brings so much happiness when they are around and twice the amount of pain when they're gone.

gAMB2178: Funny, I have recently said the same thing - a little older (quite a bit

) and six ducks! Silly things are so entertaining and bring more joy that one can fathom! Never could see myself getting so attached to poultry....but, there you go!

seramas seem to bond as well and are a good deal smaller depends on which bird it is but many of my seramas either seem to think I am their parent or their Mate LOL

Here's to hoping that you stay with BYC and get more ducks! We all have to find what works for us, and some are better set up than others to start out. Maybe do some research first before getting more birds and see how you can keep them safe in your situation. From one duck person to another, I would be getting more of what I personally like and not settling on something else. Chickens aren't my cup of tea either. Good luck!

They were very pretty ducks. I hope you will be able to get some new ones. I have read that ducks can be harder to protect outside. Hope you can build and enclosure for them.
