One of my hens (4yo black sex link) has been acting off since last night - she's lethargic (barely moving at all), fluffed up, won't really eat, won't drink, and had a clear yellow liquid coming from her beak when I went out to bring her inside today - planning on taking her to the vet asap but just wondering if anyone has any ideas

She doesn't lay eggs much at all anymore but that's been the case for a couple of years, her abdomen isn't swollen and her crop is smaller than it was last night - she appeared to be adjusting her crop for a good while last night as well, but I just assumed that was normal

Thanks in advance for any help

Recheck her crop this pm, and again in the morning when it should be empty. If you gently mash on the crop, does she have a bad odor from her beak? She might be developing slow or sour crop, and that is when the crop feels squishy and doesn’t empty overnight. An impacted crop will feel full and firm, and not empty by morning. Most hens that have crop problems will usually eat some soft cooked egg or wet chicken feed. Many production hens at that age can develop reproductive problems or cancer which can affect the crop. What do her poops look like?

No bad odour, she was willing to eat a few bites of canned tuna but that's all - she hasn't pooped at all since I brought her inside, it's been about an hour but I'll update if she does

Took her to the vet, they did an exam and x ray, and couldn't figure out what it was, besides that it was likely a reproductive issue - she's on meloxicam now and is feeling a bit better, she's willing to eat and stand up. Hoping she'll recover but I know its not likely
