Opossums can transmit Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM) to horses. It is caused by a protozoal parasite whose eggs are shed in opossum feces. Infected animals show various signs of illness, including symptoms of central nervous system disease.Possums are good critters-to a point.
They eat bugs, ticks, small critters unfortunately baby chicks fall into that category.
If you can-try to relocate him (or the chicks) or make secure chicks are secure.
I usually just leave em be and try to live in harmony. We will never be able to eradicate the wildlife around our piece of heaven. If they leave me and my birds alone they're fine. If they are extra interested in coop/run/chickens I shoot em. I have/use live traps and let most critters I trap go.
Except coons-they die. I killed 11 coons in 14 days last spring. Seldom see coons now.
