Hi I how this post finds everyone well!
I wanted to ask for everyone’s opinion on my roo’s foot. This picture is from today (2 days post surgery) I’ve been cleaning his foot with hydrogen peroxide and using triple antibiotic cream on his foot I’ve made sure he has a clean wrap on his foot and his box is clean. Also I’ve been giving him amoxicillin. I just want to know if you guys think it’s infected and when the swelling will go down

Hi, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Please do not use hydrogen peroxide anymore. You can use it one time, but then after that use something like iodine or Hibiclens, or just soak in warm Epsom salt water, dry it off, then the antibiotic ointment.

If you're not sure if you got it all, you could try PRID on it then loosely bandage.

Keep him on the amoxicillin for 5-7 days, then follow up with probiotics for at least a week, two is better.

Here is a great member article about bumblefoot if you needed to learn any further about it.

Thankyou but do you think it’s infected and if not how long will it take for there to be any signs of infection and what are the sings to look out for

It would feel warm/hot to the touch, and turn pink or red. It appears slightly pink now.

I would have him on vitamin water too, to help him fight any infection. We use Poultry Cell or Nutra Drench.

I look at that foot and think it looks a little bit infected still, but it does look like it is healing. I agree with the above to continue the amoxicillin. You could start an anti-inflammatory to help with the swelling if you feel it is necessary but I usually reserve something like that for more severe swelling.

You did pull a kernel out, right? I’m assuming so but since you didn’t say, it might be worth asking lol.

Give it some time, it’s only been a couple days and it can take a few weeks to heal completely.

So the first time I was only able to take out the scab and not the whole kernel but it got worse and a lot more swollen this time around I cut open the foot and got out the remainder of the kernel and a lot of puss. Then I flushed it all out with hydrogen peroxide but the foot doesn’t feel hot

I do still see pink. Try to cussion that foot as much as possible. Corn cussions and gauze pads are good. In addition, wrap there roosting bars in a towel to help with removing pressure and helping it heal.
