Post if you have chicks right now and/or waiting for some.

I have a order from Ideal that is supposed to be sent February 11th.

3 Golden Campine, pullets
2 Rouen Duck, males
2 Rouen Duck, females

I am kind of worried about how many peanuts I will get. It is supposed to be down in the 40's here on the nights of the 11th and 12th and they should be here on the morning of the 13th. The last time I ordered it was a lot warmer and I got no peanuts, but this time I am thinking that I will get some.

ETA: They had to push back my order. They will be sending them on March 4 now.

They make a very tasty meal. Or they are given to someone who needs a rooster. There are so many of us that are not able to have any roosters on BYC. I often wonder what happens to all the roos that the hatcheries have ?

I got 10 chicks from Ideal (2 Rhode Island Red, 2 Buff Orp, 2 Ideal 236, 2 Danish Br Leghorn, 2 Easter Eggers) and they sent 15 packing peanuts. I took 10 of the peanuts up to my local feedstore. When I went up there again 2 days later I asked what happened to the chickies and she said a lady took the whole box

Of course, they might become her dinner a couple months from now, but...well...sometimes that's what roos are for.

Picked up my order from Ideal this morning. 5 cuckoo maran pullets, 2cuckoo maran males, 12 crested special st runs, 10 silver seabright st runs, 20 hatchery choice ducks. opened the box found 8 of the seabrights dead called ideal right away the lady said they would send me 8 more out on the 16. seems like a good company to work with. i live in Maryland they sent my order out yesterday it was at my post office this morning, good service too.

I got called today by Meyer Hatchery. They will ship my 25 chicks on Feb 23. I ordered the Rainbow All Pullet Pack. I guess I better get the utility room set up for the brooder. I'm really hoping for an early spring now!

Waiting on 5 Welsummers and 10 EE's from Ideal hatchery. They are supposed to be shipped March 23rd. If we get any packing peanuts we might raise them as meat birds if they are a desired breed.

We picked up our order of 47 birds from McMurray on Monday. We had 10 DOA and lost another 7....so down to 30. They are sending out a replacement order next week of another 25. We went in on the order with two other folks. Right now the chicks that are ours are these:

1 Silver Polish
2 Araucana
2 Speckeled Sussex
1 Barred Rock
2 RIR
2 Buff Rock

In Next weeks order, if they all make it, we'll be adding:

5 Blue Chochin bantams
2 Black Frizzle bantams
2 Golden Sebright
2 Silver Sebright
1 Buff Rock
2 Silver Polish

We've been having a ball watching the little guys!
It was no fun losing them though. Very disappointing.

I do have some questions on identifying the breed of one type of chick we have. I posted a question over on the Breed ID thread. Not sure if it's a RIR Roo, a Buff Rock, or if it's a Red Star. If anyone can take a peak over there and give me your opinion, I would surely appreciate it! Thanks so much!

I have an order in at Meyer, too. We are getting 11 Ameraucana pullets, 1 roo and 11 Black Austrolorp pullets. We had ordered 11 Buckey pullets and 1 roo, but they said that they wouldn't have them until March. I can't wait. I got my brooder set up and ready!

Looking forward toward the end of February to getting four Welsumer pullets from a very well-respected local organic farmer/breeder. Can hardly wait! These will be my first! I did loads of research and fell in love with this breed. I'll be picking them up at the farm.
