My post master called early before 7. She was frantic. My box of chicks was not peeping. She peeked in and saw no movement.

Sure enough - none survived.

Three employees came out when I arrived. They were all in tears. I signed the receipt and opened the box to confirm that none survived.

The tracker showed the chicks went from Conn to Ohio to Jax. Why the diversion to Ohio I have no idea. The tracker also stated they were in Jacksonville and available for pick up by noon yesterday but when I called the post office stated they were not there. They have a new policy at this post office that when ever live animals are shipped they go directly to the post masters office and she calls the recipient. This is because in the past there have been a few issues with carriers. Just about every time I would get chicks I would get there in the am and there would be no chicks and then I would get a frantic call at 4pm to come pick up the chicks - and they knew I had come in to check and made multiple calls.

The company I ordered from is a good one and I am waiting to hear from them. I called on the way home to leave a message and I emailed them too.

I was just so excited and ready to care for some baby chicks. Now I get to dismantle the bathroom brooder set up.

I must say that we have a great post master. I had spoken to her yesterday when the tracking showed the chicks were in town. She got to the bottom of things. They were left at the airport. I live 15 minutes from the airport. She was more outraged than me and she was not going to let it go. My chicks were deplaned yesterday but they were not moved to until early this am. I have to give her props for A) finding out why they were scanned in and then left and B) that she told me what the truth instead of acting like she did not know. The hatchery said that Ohio is where the chicks originate. So that explains that but it was a direct flight so I should have received the call yesterday to pick them up and when I called about the scan - the first time - the post office should have acted to find why they were scanned in but not at the facility.

The hatchery made good on their guarantee but some of the chicks are no longer available so I had to change my preference and my receive date to make it all work out. I ordered Blue Orpingtons and I had to swap out to get the order but they were really nice and apologetic.
