Most vet. medications are similar if not the same as the human medications....just different doses. Say for instance with Alleyoops or Pinenot's situations. They are giving PCN. That's a great ATB, but some people like myself, it would kill me. I have what they call an anaphylatic reaction to PCN. My throat closes and it doesn't matter what dosage. What if someone was pregnant and ate the eggs. That medication crosses over from the mothers blood stream to the unborn childs bloodstream. Not only can you help create the "Super Bugs" but anytime you take ATB when they are not needed or for an extended period of time, you run the risk of aquiring C-diff. This is where the good bacteria or "flora" in your intestines are eliminated due to the ATB therapy. Flaygl then is the only medication to resolve this issue. The pills are bitter and the C-diff is horrible to have. I should know. When I was hospitalized back in June, the hospital had me on 11 different ATB to rid my body of the Salmonella, MRSA, staph, strep and Pneumonia that I had. It's no laughing matter. I may be jumping overboard here, but one tends to learn the hard way and it's not always fun. I'm a nurse and dealt with these things all the time, but sympathy and empathy are two total different bed partners. It's always better to be safe than sorry.
