Post Office would not ship my eggs!

Instead of showing her paperwork proving that she should accept the package, call her supervisor. If that don't work, call the next person up the chain of command. At some point they will explain it to her in a way she will truly understand. Remember, "never argue with a fool".

I'm back. I went back to the first PO, and the line was about 15 people long. The first lady I talked to was not there, and so I gave up waiting and left.

The lady at the second PO took the shipment. She said she had never heard that eggs could not be shipped. She said she knew there were some new regulations on accepting live birds, but not hatching eggs.

So the package is off!

Can't believe this was so complicated. Sheesh!

Oh. and I actually did talk to the ladies' supervisor. She went and asked the Postmaster, and the Postmaster was the one who told me she would have to call another shipping center and call me back.

I worked for the P.O. for 18 years and they have some of the dumbest, ignorant people working there you would not believe. That is why your postage is going up and they will most likely be privatized. My advice to anyone is if they have a Automated Postal Center, use it! I received a call from my brother in NC asking why they tell him not to ship parcel post because they (the PO) will smash his package. I suggest that one you ship eggs priority or express mail and two not to tell the doofus what your sending. Well folks, please allow me to add my 2 cents.
First are chicken eggs really so rare that a seller can not replace eggs?
There is a song called "Waiting for the World to Change". Why the heck should we "Wait" why not change it ourselves, with a little kindness.
Good garden o' peas, they're chicken eggs not diamonds! Are a few extra eggs for insurance really gonna break the bank? Heck even the hatcheries throw in a couple free chicks now and then. A lot more work/cost goes into hatching those little buggers ya know.

Lastly, I worked for the post office and believe me the way some people pack things, I'm not surprised when things are destroyed. Even when I strongly advised people agains shipping the package with scotch tape they insist on shipping it. No matter what the clerk tells you wrap the darn thing in brown paper and make sure there are no other markings/writing other than the to and from addresses. NO! NO! NO! styrofoam peanuts EVER! NEVER NEVER NEVER!

Eggs should be sent at least priority or express mail. Never UPS or FedEx, becaue you never know where they'll leave your package.

"Signature Conformation" this means someone has to sign for the package and can check it's contents in front of a postal worker. Gotta get a witness.

Insured!

Do not, Do not give eggs to the mailman. They will sit in his/her truck all day. Either freezing or cooking. There is no air conditioning in their vehichles and they aren't warm enough in the winter.

Mail early in the day. The sooner your package gets into the "system" the faster it will get there.

Marking your package fragile means nothing to the machinery that will process you package. There is no such thing as "handle with care". The postal service does not have time to "hand process" your package.

Finally the postal service DOES NOT! treat any package special. They DO NOT! take more care with insured packages. I had a woman tell a customer in her store this when the customer was shipping two glass bowls and wanted to save money by putting one inside the other. EVEN AFTER I TOLD HER THIS WAS NOT THE CASE.

I am not bossy, my ideas is just better.
I love ya baby. Bless the beasts and the children.

"Part of this post is from another I posted but don't have time to rewrite and feel it is important to this post. You'll just have to glean what you can."

I've definitely learned my lesson. Plain package marked FRAGILE, and that's it.

I was trying to copy what some of my other egg boxes said on the outside, but I know they don't really treat your eggs any differently. The second PO even said I couldn't insure the package, but why should I, the only money I'm out is the postage anyways.

Not going through this again!

My HUSBAND is a mailman for USPS and I too could not mail my own eggs!

I got turned down, he got turned down (in uniform) and then I brought them to a different PO and just didn't say what was in the box!

Now I just do not say what is in there or ship UPS, they don't care!

I agree with all the comments. Marking the package fragile is worthless only because machinery can't read ( neither can some of the people they hire). I looked it up the Domestic Mail Manual at www.usps.com and the only thing it says for shipping poultry eggs is to have "special handling" on the box. It is different if they are hatched as then they become "live animals".

Perhaps in the future we should all lower our expectations of the post office.......then we won't be disappointed.

I mean....just because postage went up today...doesn't mean their customer service skills should improve:D

Hope your package arrives safely.

you probably got a new worker that didnt know what they were doing. you can ship eggs from beverly hills. the problem is that regardless of what is put on the package your eggs will most likely get xrayed
