Post office

I can understand your concern for your new new chicks and the confusion surrounding them being sent a day early. I can also understand frustration and anger when someone is rude to you. That said, it is a very busy time of year for the postal system with many packages and many, many pieces of mail coming through their offices. To look for one package, even if it makes noise may truly be a monumental task to undertake for a customer who is on the phone and not even there in person (in a long line of persons, I'm sure). IMO, I would take a deep breath, think about it from their perspective and go there in person with a plate of cookies and a "Happy Holidays" to you on my lips to pick up your new chicks. Most of the time, "nice" is catching.

P.S. My grandmother was the Postmaster of a small Post Office and was a wonderful, customer service oriented person so not all postal workers deserve a bad name/rap.

Sorry about the rudeness about them I was not thinking about their might be people working at post offices off here, and yes I know its holidays and its probly stressfull for them but I am serious when I say this isnt the first time they've done this, I've gotten hung up twice on my brother once, They never want to help you, They did this when I got my ducks a few months ago so I dont see how that was holiday stress, and it was Different people everytime it happened. and No I am not being rude to them when I get hung up on, Just simply ask them if any chicks came and when they say something about having a gazillion packages to go through I say something about it suppose to be held there with my phone number and then, *Beep beep beep* ok So ill say it this way, OUR post office is stupid

Also to add, Our mailbox is 3 and half miles away, Plenty of ditches gators and animals along the way, im not allowed to drive and no one here will surely drive me out there every few hours to check, So if they go out there their stuck out there till my brothers off work. We're 10-13 miles out of town from post office if going down the back road its an extra 3 miles including to that, My uncle and brother gets off at 5 Post office closes at 4 so I cant just get a ride up there anytime I want, So if I cant know for sure if there up there I DONT have a ride up there, if their up there today then their stuck there till tomorrow because I couldnt simply have an answered question from some lazy person at the post office, if a full box of chirpers really is that unnoticable I think someone should tell my grandma that so I can keep them inside again

please remmber that with all the budget cuts all post offices are short staffed .yes, even during the holidays,so it may be that the person thought they answered your question and went back to dealing with the line going out the door. At our post office we dont have enough people to answe rthe phone some times. Also we arent allowed to give out info over the phone like "is my check there?" because you cant see who is on the phone. One postal worker who does her best!

Maybe you should wait to order until you have the ability to get them. Respect and diplomacy can go along way, more so than put downs and anger.

I am a former mail carrier delivering in a rural part of town in Washington state. I take offense when someone calls mail carriers lazy. If you dont know the goings on of your local PO, ask if they might give you a tour.

Our policy is to hold live animals at the PO, call if theres a phone number, as early as possible in the morning. At my PO the live animals arrived at 5 am. In years past, we used to deliver to the house but its very traumatic to the animal to be bounced around in a mail truck for 3 hours. And no, because of recent policies a mail carrier is NOT allowed to deviate from their route to deliver a live animal first. It gets delivered during the course of the day, in the order of where your house is on their route.

And, at this time of year it IS extremely busy. Everyone wanted their packages yesterday. I have delivered chicks when the customer has assured me they would be home. Deviated off the route to their house, yes, I said deviate (and thereby broken the policy) , to deliver their chicks first, found out NO ONE was home like they said, and had to drive all the way back to the PO. I never left chicks on the porch, in a truck, or anywhere else, unless the customer had instructed me it was okay to leave somewhere. I was always thinking about the welfare of the animals. If it was too hot in the truck Id direct the tiny fan near them to circulate cool air. Same with the cold weather, the heater would be on even if it was too hot up front in the cab, some of the heat went in the back.

So I am defending the mail carriers because we arent ALL bad. Yes, we have our bad days. Whenever I had a bad day, like when I got yelled at by the supervisor for not getting out on my route earlier or looking at him crosseyed, or ranting because they no longer would participate in the food banks Christmas giving tree, my day was bad, but I warned the customers first when they came out to say hi, that I was having a bad day. My customers were ALL great!

We are good hearted folk, just like the rest of you.

Well I am sorry you take offense to that, but as I said in previous post I wasnt thinking when I posted this, But I wont take my words back for our post office, its been like this all year round with Not just me but alot of other people in my family, and No not all of em are bad but a good 90%+ is at our post office, I've only met one person there so far that was actaully willing to help me without a problem, and I wasnt the one who said they'd be sending them to me. they did. and No its not just on the phone either, Their rude to you in public, and do Not want to help you.

I don't like my postal carrier because I have caught him not comming to my house several times ...one day I waited until 6 pm and he still didn't show up and the next morning I checked the mail at 7am just in case still nothing(my mail usually runs by 3:30 pm... at 11 am here he comes... then later that day a different mail carrier came and delivered more mail... he doesn't know usually I can tell when the mail man has been to my mail box because I can see his tire tracks in the dirt next to it(live ona dirt road)... but I do not take it out on all postal workers...

I hope you get your chicks safely
