YEP been nice here too,
I was talking color on your big girl. If you have a bantam male that will color match with her, then just breed her that way. Will take a few years if you want to breed that down to bantam, or you can have a mid sized line too. That cross usually makes you a 2 pound or so bird.

If you get ready for some more, just let me know, should have plenty til it gets cold here. Just hatching for myself finally right now. Just popped out about 100 chicks this week (d'anvers too) and have 3 bators going with 100-140 each. So wont take long at that rate to fill up all the brooders and grow out pens again.

went to Toni-Marie's today for a bit. While we were in the house talking, I noticed on her wall about the same time she was pointing it out, one of the paintings you did for her all framed up and pretty looking. The Ohiki one. All I can say is wow!! the pics you put up on here of it did it no justice at all in comparison to seeing it first hand.

Now I know I need to get you to do one or two for me, and if any of yall want any, boy I'd sure recommend her, they really do look awesome!

I was wondering if any of you could help me out with determining exactly what I have here. These photos are of 8 week old chicks received from Cackle Hatchery. I ordered 5 straight run Golden Duckwing Phoenix's and 5 Gold Laced Wyndotte Pullets. I received 5 GL Wyndotte Pullets and 1 GL Wyndotte Cockrel and 8 phoenix's. Of the 8, 3 were golden colored and 5 silver colored. I have 3 with larger combs than the rest and am just not sure if they are Golden Duckwings or some other type of Phoenix. Here's the pics, any help ya'll could provide would be great. Thanks.

well first off, they all apear to be crow wing birds, not duckwing. Duckwings will have a bold triangle looking batch of color on the lower wings, birchens or crow wings will just be a black wing.

I may be missing it but dont see that patch on any of them.

First is a brown red (bb red is it is duckwing)
second, honestly not sure, may be gold, but color doesnt look like any of mine, would be the closest to gold of any of them though
third , silver birchen, (silver ducking if it's a duckwing)

Thank you very much for your input. After looking at some pictures online of duckwings I see the triangle you're talking about. I looked at them closely this evening and I don't see the triangle on any of them. The 2nd and 3rd picture are actually of the same bird, I think the gold hue in the 2nd pic is from the flash reflection off the paneling, the 3rd pic is just a closeup of the back.

That's kind of a disappointment from Cackle Hatchery. I had to wait an additional month from the 1st expected shipping date because they didn't have any golden duckwings available. Guess they finally figured they should send me something and figured I wouldn't figure it out until it was too late.

Do those two look like cockerel's to you? They both seem to have much larger combs than the rest.​

ah ok yes I see it's the same now, that second one was throwing me a bit with the yellowish tint.

And yes, those are 100% cockerels.
Note the pointed feathers in the hackle and saddles already.

It's the truth!
And yep, did have a good time seeing Toni Marie again, and brought home a pile of super nice birds too. All those large fowl. Even got a couple of gorgeous shojo hens to start work with. Everthing is in molt right now. As soon as they are done, I plan to take a lot of new pics of them and will post a few here.

PM me some details on how to go about doing a print or two. Thinking a d'anver one and a longtail one, or one with both.

And I did totally miss the 8 week part on those pics. Yep that is true, being that young they could still develop to be duckwings, birchens are very rare and it would be odd for a hatchery to have them. I couldnt tell well from the angle of the pic, but the silver did look to have some form of lacing on the breast, but then again at 8 weeks, that could still just be juvie feathers.
Okie, post some more pics in a month or so and lets see what they end up looking like.
