Post Phoenix Pics Please

yep Amanda,
I did the same thing this year with my blue reds and blue golds and have a few splash versions coming along, they are still very young so hoping they turn out nice.
The lavenders made a little progress this year, still need more tail work for me, but did get rid of that old english look Cy had going from his original out cross to make them.
Mostly breed them to decent black birds this year so most are black splits. Hoping next year when I back cross those, some pretty nice lavenders will come out because these are looking promissing in the blacks. The ones that I did breed lavender to lavender were to some of Toni's lavender cuckoos. Obviously on the ones bred to the female cuckoo came out just lavender, the others were all barred, but it did get better type and tail to them this go round.

Did also get some real nice black barred birds(crele coming up next from them) some blue tailed ginger (white), barred silver duckwing, and several other new colors. Once they all get some size to them, I'll get some pics up.

Got the first set of shojos due to hatch next week end. Breeding those 2 hens to my bantam bb's. Was suprised at how they started right back to laying once I got them here. Think I have close to 3 dozen eggs now in the bator off just those 2 hens. Kinda excited about that

I was wondering if the lav. gene will mess up getting long feathers.. Because they are brittle? Crele sounds so fun. I wish I had a barred hen to go with my gorgeous blue red roo. Maybe the lav will clean up the black? I got lemon cuckoo bantam cochins this year to cross to my shojos. Lemon blue cuckoo is my goal. (ohiki & phoenix) Looking forward to it next year. blue tailed silver ginger sounds great. I have silver gingers, but not blue tailed. Those gingers do sound exciting. Can't wait to see how they come out. I love my gingers. I think the red will be a better outcross than a white, but I know David used his best bird and that is what is really most important. Getting the best tails. Color seems to be a bit easier to achieve, well, except on blacks.

yep fully agree.
And lemon blue cuckoo sounds awesome. Would love to work with ohikis too, that would defiantely be an awesome color on them.

Yes the black and lavender crossing was just for that goal, to actually try to improve both , color on the black, type on the lav. That's why Cy sent me that Black/gold male to give me something to help out with them. Yes the feathers do seem to be more brittle on the lavender too. They had decent saddle and tail, just didnt have much in over all lenght. As this first year went by with them, I did start noticing how easy they broke.

With the barreds. I need to keep the few I got this year, but I'll be happy to send you a male or female next year from these to help you along if you want. Looking like I have 2 males and about 4-5 pullets. Plus a few still just a few weeks old. Not sure which way you are going with them, but you'll need a male to get the barring in them, at least on a first cross, but I'm sure you know that.

The blue tailed male is looking pretty nice. He some how popped out of my blue silver to normal silver duckwings.
Also have one boy that looks like , well I'm not real sure but he's sure cool looking. Black tailed white bird, has black mottling over the white body, and all of it's barred. He came from that silver barred male over a silver hen, but looks like a reverse mottled barred ginger??

LOL> OK OK. I know how your blues produced the ginger.. Guessing, YOKOHAMA!!! someone either outcrossed or the original birds must of had it in them. But I am guessing an outcross. The black mottling is actually spangling. Most people don't realize that yokos have a spangling gene and a mottling gene. Like a spangled hamburg. It can be segregated back out. They are also on a ginger base and when you have a ginger carrier, it can crop up, and especially as you breed more. Looking forward to the lemon cuckoos. Those yokos are a wonderful outcross for a phoenix, because you get so many colors with the rainbow of genes they carry. I have seen white spangled birds from outcrosses, mottled blacks, mottled blues, gingers in all shades, I have yet to see a splash silver ginger, but I am not sure I would recognize a white bird with one or two black tail feathers as such. Most all of my "colors" come from working with red shoulder yokohama genetics. Brian Reeder, the one who counseled me on genetics years ago, wrote an article that you can probably google on red shoulder yokohama genetics. I also play with the genetics calculator, but I have noticed most of cy's birds seem to have the influence. I sometimes wonder about the stary breasted silver duckwings even. My newest idea is to breed my red shoulder yokohamas becuase of their ginger base back to my shojo roo. This would in theory create a shojo minohiki type bird, which could then be bred f1 to f1 to produce a mottled red ginger which would appear millie fleur colored.......... That will be next years project. I also have a gorgeous cross Earline Dacus did this last year. It was a malya/millie fleur leghorn. I think it will put the minohiki stance right where I want it as she has that fierce malay stance. Boy, this is exciting stuff...

No I didnt realise yokos had all that in them. These , like most of mine, all originated from Toni, so there's a good shot that all may be the case. Glad to have him figured out though, cause he did end up making a beautiful bird. And yes, now that you mentioned it, the pattern is similar to a hamburg with a solid tail. So guessing he is basically a spangled silver ginger then, barred on top of that....haha

Good luck on those projects too.

Travis,
I look forward to see those too, will have mine up as soon as they grow up a bit .
