Good haha. How long does it take spurs to heal? I had to slip some off and he's going to the show. They had to be slipped off as they stuck straight out and very sharp or hens would probably have gotten hurt.

My old barred rocks spurs click together when he walks, it causes him to shed them naturally. I always know when he drops one, he hides in the coop right by the pop door.
When the kids bring in cocks with long pointed spurs we take the dremel to them to blunt the spurs. We don't want the judge to have to deal with it, although he is used to it, or have problems with the kids when they are cooping out after fair.

I've been looking for a Dremel but can't find one in Wal-Mart lol. Where can I get one? Or should I order one.

@Boggy Bottom Bantams
My rooster messed his up about a week ago so I wrapped it in gauze and took it off, it was nice and dry. Two days ago he somehow managed to get blood all over the white hens and in the feeders and on walls. So hopefully they dry and clean up by the 28th.

Should be able to order one at Wal-mart.com or Lowe's, Home Depot, any hardware type store in the area probably sells a Dremel. I have not de-spured but I hear others talk about taking a pair of pliers and just twisting them off?

Yes that's how I do it.it's not actually taking the spur off but just the dried shell on top. It's basically a lot of layers and your just getting to the soft spot I guess we can call it

Yeah i just wiggle them a little bit like a loose tooth and theyll slip right off. They bleed a little butnits nothing that hurts the bird. Usually dries up completely and is fine in a couple days. But yeah for a couple weeks, if they hit something with them theyll bleed a little again

I picked up our dremel years ago at Home Depot. Other people use Pedi-paws but we do around 20 birds before fair and I prefer the power of the dremel, we would go through to many batteries.
