anyone got tips about breeding phoenix, my rooster and hen have both won competitions so have decent conformation and both have big tails so when the rooster treads her his sperm ends up everywhere other than where it should be, any Ideas how to hep them breed as I need some chicks

I know nothing about breeding phoenix but with Bokhara's pigeons the breeders will cut the back feathers under the tail of the pigeons to make it easier for them to breed.

Maybe he's just a bad aim. My boy is very accurate and fertile. I have had no problems with their mating. Hope you figure something out.

@Nickeyo pluck feathers around vent about 1 inch all around on both hen and rooster. If not then you can try artificial insemination.

How long do they take to mature/ breed mine are ?year? Old I just lost my other rooster for the rest of my flock they are barred rocks just didn't know if I should get another roo

I can't speak for all Phoenix, but my pullets started laying at just over 4 months. I feel that is earlier than most so I was a bit surprised.
