young black tail red phoenix roo. He has his longest feathers pulled out. I couldn't resist breeding him.

I have a question for all you Phoenix lovers and experts. I have an 11 month old roo, I aquired from a horse stable at 2 wks old and I have been wondering what sort of genetic mix he is. Now that there are more adult feathers, I am leaning towards part Phoenix. He carries his tail low, likes to prance around on his tippy toes [looks like a ballet dancer LOL] and is a big old teddybear. His legs are slate colored. What do you'all think? AND thank you for looking.....

Phoenix Silkie blend maybe??? Looks to maybe have a dose of fibro and pea comb from the silkie also???? Just a thought...TM

yep I agree, defiantely got a crested breed of some sorts in him, I'd say silkie or polish. Comb and skin does look like silkies but many generations back

ok, I am going to guess sphitzhauben. (spelling) lol. Golden probably over maybe a bb red phoenix. Leg coloring is good both slate, spangling is recessive so it would not show up on him. They have a similar tail angle and his crest is very small. If it is silkie, I agree it would be way back as his face is not a true fibro but I don't know much about that trait. Also, I don't think he had extra toes. But in a situation like this it could be a "many" breed combination. Food for thought. Breeding him to a phoenix hen would help you to know.

there ya go, 3 phoenix people, 3 different possibilities.
Basically, you'll never know is what we are saying I guess being how it was found.

Toni Marie is a master at the fibro melanistic gene, if she sees it, I bet it's in there.
I didnt know til she showed me how to tell one that has one copy of fibro from a non fibro bird , one with 2 copies is obvious, dark comb and wattles.
She also showed me another trick, look at the skin under the tail, if it's dark and not normal white/fleshy colored, that's a positive on the fibro gene being in it.

If it's there, then definitely has silkie ancestry in it. If not, then a spitz of polish would be a good guess.
Or could be a Heinz 57 like Onag said.
