Post Phoenix Pics Please

Pics
Im back home and my mom still has phoenix, she sold the creles but still has a gold rooster with light brown hens and the silver hen I posted way back. The silver hen hatched out 9 chicks, all boys. There is 8 silvers and 1 white. We have gotten whites from them before but they always had white legs with black eyes but this little guy is showing the goldish eyes and has nice slate legs. We're keeping the white and a silver cockerel just to have, might breed them back to light browns and see what we get. I'll try to upload some pics before too long

I had someone show up on my doorstep. She asked me to give her two chickens a home because she was moving out of her country home that day and was going to live in the city. She told me she was going to butcher the birds if I couldn't take them. I asked her what type of chickens she had, and she had no idea. I asked her what size they were and she didn't know. I asked what breed she had, and she didn't know that either. I'm crazy. I agreed to take them. They turned out to be a pair of phoenixes. Here is a picture of my free silver hen. She is 5 months old.

This Phoenix hen was going to be a cull due to having spurs, but she's made such a good broodhen that I think I'll keep her in the "misc" chicken pool. She just taught all 9 of her chicks (well, to be fair they aren't actually all her chicks, only 1/3 of them are hers but she doesn't know that) to roost - they're about 4 weeks old and the perch is 5-6 feet off the ground. I thought this picture of them all was just great. Mr. Hotstuff chick on top is, I'm nearly positive, a rooster. He's always off someplace by himself since the whole family moved back into general population last week.

haha

Amanda,
I was just about to say the same thing.
In the phoenix world, a spured hen is your BEST bird to keep for great males. NEVER cull a phoenix hen due to it having spurs, it's a blessing in breeding for you. I have quite a few spured girls and all my good males come from them.

only cull them based on body type, color, comb and stuff like that
Oh forgot to add, I have several cockerel feathered hens too, dont cull them on that either, that also make your best males (and are usually spured too)

OH YES! I totally agree. And also, I have some cockerel feathered hens that have real rooster saddle feathers!!! too cool!. You don't see that in other breeds!
