Hi guys,

I am new to phoenixes. I just got two more hens to add to my pair. All of my birds are hatchery. I am not deceiving myself about what kind of quality I can expect, but I would like to know what colors I have and if you don't mind, hear a brief critique about each bird (if my pictures are good enough!). I can READ the standard over and over again, but I only seem to learn by hearing what others have to say about specific birds.

Here is one of my new LF hens. I believe she is a golden, but I've seen pictures of golden, golden duckwing, and bb reds and they all look the same to me!

I apologize if the pictures aren't good enough. I used a manual lens and the lighting conditions weren't great.

Toni has the black shubert line. Pics on here website onagadori south featherfarm google lookup will bring it up for you. I would have to go out and take pics. I have a pic of my black roo somewhere and can get some pics off the yard. I get blacks out of my blues /splashes.

That's great that they are all interested in birds, and phoenix do seem to be great for kids. I have sent may to young kids and it's always nice to hear back how well they did at shows and all with them. Got a young girl in Florida that's winning about everything she enters with hers.

I think the pullets will not be DQ ed at APA shows, the male would for sure. So try them and see how it goes and with time, just work toward breeding you some better birds for future trips. Within no time, they'll have some excellent birds going for sure as long as they keep the fire going about doing it.

And yes, I have a lot of Toni's large fowl black birds, as well as bantams I got from Cy and bred to Toni-Maries to clean up some color in the male I got from Cy.

The silvers and gold duckwing hens look VERY VERY similar. Some golds do come out like yellow hackled bb red hens, Toni-Marie has a few pictured on her website like that. But being hatchery stock, pretty sure it's a bb red hen up front and a silver in back. It's harder to be for sure on the silver without seeing the whole bird out from under the shelter.

Dont look horrible for hatchery birds though, not bad!

Here are a few pictures of the silvers or golden duckwing. Or whatever they are! They appear to be exactly the same color. Is it "ok" if a phoenix hen has a flop-over comb?
