Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Bill,
You really need to commend Alan for doing such a fine job because if it was not for his expertise I would not have such a good start.

Harry you too deserve some creds to keep them that way. I talked to a fella who bought 2 duo of Whites for $35 per duo from a guy up in Canada who has Alan's line, and this guy told me how disappointed he is with the 2 cockerels he bought. He said the legs were very spindly and fine boned. Not enough good breeders with White Orps. We need as many as we can get interested into Whites. I am just starting and am looking forward in seeing what comes out this season with this newly created White line. Went over to Doug's yesterday and seen his Buffs. There very large. He only have about a baker's dozen of them. He has a partner down in AL who now has Doug's Buffs, New Hamps and White Rocks. Doug said he is setting this fella up to show and you folks down south will be in for a treat when you go to shows. Bob Blosi told me that this partner of Doug won Grand Champ at a very large show down there and Bob said this show is usally only won by the best Bantam breeders. And to have a Large Fowl breed like New Hampshires to win it says loads for the quality that will be presented at shows in the southeast region.
I get an email every now and then from Alan. He says is so disappointed with some of the folks on this site he no longer likes coming here. That is too bad, this site can not afford to loose anymore breeders like Alan.

Harry, haven't seen Alan around on the boards, is he doing OK?
Don,
I haven't talked to him for awhile.
Don, you thru me off I posted you on another thread.

Bill,
I started out with only 4 birds. One white male from Alan and one black male from Bama and two hens, one from Superior hatchery and one from someone I know that had orps (had to buy all five and only kept one Blue hen which I would have prefered black but like everyone says you got to work with what you got. Then I got two trios from a lady named Kim that had direct birds from Bama and Joy. Disposed of one of the roosters from the trio and at least one hen which was smallish.

Hey guys were would be the best place, not including this site, to sell my lemon cuckoo roos on-line for those of you who have tried it? I am growing a nice collection of these fine specimen. Has e-bay worked out for anyone? Go ahead and PM me the links that would be great. :)

rarebreedauctions.com and featherauction.com are decent sites to sell stock.
good luck!

I am looking forward to see what you make this season. You know how to build a bird.

Quote: Thank you :) Yes, I need to get rid of some of these beauties, they are getting old enough to harass my poor hens. I only keep the gentlemen lol I also don't have it in me to eat the cuckoo's yet.. not after I invested in hem, I still have 7 buff roos to butcher and 32 hens to choose from. Thoered, the one on the bottom right, is 6 months and massive. I love it.. think I might keep him not sure yet.

Here are my buff orpingtons in a little hole i dug in the dirt. I put a little sand in it. They love to squeeze into the hole together : )
Funny my girls all try to fix in one little hole and the have tons of room to roam. Go figure!

This is a fast moving thread and I just want to say I am so impressed with everyone's orpingtons Keep those great pictures coming...

Debbie

A few updated pics of the 1st wave of chicks.
This is a perfect cockerel for anyone who likes to make Red Cuckoos.
The major diff with this fella is the huge thick boned legs & the long back. Most of the Buff Cuckoos have fine bones. Not this fella.

Some of his siblings

The one Columbian cockerel. IF I like to perfect them I should take him to some Whites

I like the long backs. Long and wide.

This is the one Silver I got from my crossing my Silver Cuckoo cockerel to my Buff Columbian.
His mom has Blue legs. I have never crossed any Blue legged bird to White, so there is no doubt where this girl came from.

Need I say more about the quality of Joyce's line of Buffs. Nice thing with these I can take these Buff Sports to White for Whites, OR take them to Buff to make some knock out Buffs.

This White cockerel is my oldest chick from this season. He is a first week of March hatch. He already is mounting these Buff Sport pullets and their not even laying. He will do fine to cross onto these Buff Sports. And just look at the full rounded breast on this Buff Sport pullet.

an interesting perspective from down under on buff breeding there.for anyone interested in their methods..

http://www.thecuckoopoultrystudofaustralia.com/buff-orpington-improving-type.html

LOL..i liked the way he described the 2 types of orp in australia as the foofy type, and the roadrunner type..that really sums things up for the way i see orps today..best description yet of the 2 types

Interesting, one of my lavenders strains have blood from Down Under, I added Coronation Sussex to them and got the best tails and colors form those birds from Australia. I'd like to thank Jim P for helping me.

NOTE: These are just facts and not try to promote any sales pitch since I seldom sell anything.

I really like the looks of the Buff sport pullet. Since I am new to Orps and am just starting to learn my opinion on what I like may change. I like the full round breast but not a super long back. I want them to have a well defined back and not look like a basketball with legs & head attached. I also want to see some hock. I don't know if I am correct in what I like with SOP or not.
