Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

I really like the looks of the Buff sport pullet. Since I am new to Orps and am just starting to learn my opinion on what I like may change. I like the full round breast but not a super long back. I want them to have a well defined back and not look like a basketball with legs & head attached. I also want to see some hock. I don't know if I am correct in what I like with SOP or not.
littlechicklet you are spot on what most APA judges like. I like the longer backs since they seem to give a bird more presence and size. Yesterday at Doug's farm I could not help but notice how nice and long his Buff Orps back are. Some like em longer like me and some prefer more of the rounder style. Bottom line, you are the only judge that matters to how you breed you flock. That is the way it should be.

Thank you, good to know. I have noticed with the bbs I have that one line is almost to low too the ground for my taste & the only one I have left from the line I liked and kept is a black cockerel. He was not my best cockerel out of the 3 but he was the one the predator saw fit to leave me. I am thinking if I cross him to the shorter line I might be able to get some height in the offspring and hopefully see more hock like you can on him. Both lines have good width, nice breasts & what I would call a medium length back. I am going to give it a try and see what they do together.

I have one hen that is setting & she will be hatching the shorter ones the first of the week. That is if she has any hatch since its her first time. If all goes well I will have some more pullets to put with him.

He looks like he might be Delaware colored, also looks like he is split to the gold gene.

Jon he definitely has the Gold gene coming from both parents. I have one more of the Columbian/Delaware that I hatched out a couple of weeks ago from the Buff Columbian and my best Buff Orp cockerel from last year. So, these Columbian/Delaware looking boys will have some size.
Delisha these oddball looking birds are coming from my Buff Columbian girls. If I do anything with them is another story. For now they are back burners. I am more concerned with my standard varieties. I can not wait and see how these Blues turn out from my trio. I am using a Blue son of my Brown/Red cock Harold. It will be a very interestig breeding season around here.

I love the different colors, but I don't want them mixing with my pretties :p oh well I will just look at ya'lls pics and be satisfied that way lol

Interesting, one of my lavenders strains have blood from Down Under, I added Coronation Sussex to them and got the best tails and colors form those birds from Australia. I'd like to thank Jim P for helping me.

NOTE: These are just facts and not try to promote any sales pitch since I seldom sell anything.

Interesting Harry..Im not a sales person either .dont intend to be..I just know what I like....some of your work is pretty bold and interesting .you shouldnt be afraid to show it off..long time ago saw your lavanders,I have to say pretty impressive...I like the aussies bold thinking...the germans make orps like a swiss watch maker , they are just brilliant...I have a couple freinds in australia that I made over the years that were going to help me import some australorp , we had everything set ..but australia recently had an import xport ban due to couple different very serious diseases , one of which is carried by bats..it killed a stable of horses and thier handlers..so just one of the reasons..... sae la vie..cant do much about that..we keep heads up and carry on..

My lord those are cute Sonja

Thank you! This is my first try at Bantams. I am curious to know if a person can feather sex them like the English and Standard? I have become proficient at sexing them, but I admit, I am almost scared to pick them up, they are so tiny, but with such a loud peep!
