Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

good looking fella littlechicklet...you take great care of them...you will have such a great time at the shows..i learn something every show..judges will help you with any questions when they are finished....you have really nice birds to work with..so you will do real well..most of all just enjoy the experience..:)

I am sure I will figure it out as I go. I am sure showing will help and speaking to the judges after the shows will help a great deal. Here is the black boy I kept. He is 5 months old in this pic. He was hatched on Easter. Meant to watermark pics but really doubt anyone will be snapping him up. I am going to wait and see how he fills out but as of now he is okay. He does have a nice green sheen to his feathers but it doesn't show up well in this pic.
It is really difficult to get that green sheen to show up. I've had best luck getting it to show when the birds are in sunlight. Don't have blacks any more but I do love a nice black orp.

Thank you both. I try to take the best care of them I can, this weekend is worming & external parasite treatment, I will also start deciding on which ones go to conditioning pens. I think I have a pic of a little pullet that is quite a bit younger than him where the sheen shows better. She is a nice looking little girl but will have to wait longer to see how she fills out. If my understanding is correct the nice green sheen is linked genetically with red but no sure. I know I said I was going to watermark but here she is.

ETA: ignore the green scrubby behind her its what I use to scrub the waterers with.

Correct. True blacks have red or "gold" in them to enhance the black. Blues should not have this gene, they'll have a lack of it or what is known as the "silver" gene. Misunderstanding that is why there are so many blues leaking red and gold. People have bred true blacks to their blues and that shouldn't be done.

Great pics John! I love it when they come running to you. Have you named daisy's chick yet? Do you think it's a girl?

Except when Jonn was treating Bella for bumble foot...............She ran into the trees and took her babies with her......
