Thank you for the kind thoughts. I like to name these guys, I guess it makes them seem more like little people to me. IF I had more time I would name the girls, there is just too many to name them all. lolol

Cute dog in your AVATAR!

I sure hope you get a Boss too. I learned how my flock is not quite so predictable and had to literally hatch every single egg out to get the two or three Black cockerels who I like the best. My Boss was one of the earlier hatches. Unfortunately I had lost 11 to a coon attack in the next batch or two who would have been equals. So, I hatched clean up to October. The youngest Black cockerel maybe one who is the sleeper. Your first year is all about just getting the flock started. Then next year hatch them all and cull heavy and you will be rocking with outstanding birds. I wish you the best with your Fab 5!

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but it's worth a shot!

I purchased what I thought to be 6 Blue Orpington hatching eggs. The chicks hatched a couple days ago and they didn't look quite 'blue' to me, with the exception of one. Out of the 6, I hatched out 4 cute babies!

I went back to check my purchase and noticed the listing stated "6 BLUE BUFF ORPINGTON HATCHING EGGS". However, they had a photo of a Blue Orpington (which I'm guessing wasn't their own since I found the same photo in a google search). I guess I accidentally purchased the wrong listing as he does have listings stating "6 BLUE ORPINGTON HATCHING EGGS". Ugh!

Here's what the babies look like....

and here you can see the one that actually looks blue:

Can you explain to me what a Blue Buff? Is it a cross between a Blue and Buff? Does anyone have any photos of what these guys will look like once they're grown? I'm pretty disappointed as I really wanted Blue Orpingtons, not Blue Buff... whatever that is!

Cute chicks but definitely not blue. Blue buff is a cross between a blue bird mated to a buff bird. Don't think the color would be anything consistent so not really sure what you could expect?? Maybe someone who has done some color experimenting can chime in.

I just hope that what you got are actually orpingtons, do they have white or yellow legs? The brown ones may have a brownish color. Again not sure what leg color you could expect as buffs have white and blues have slate??? Will be interesting to see what comes of your little crew.

Just look up at the top of this page. IVAN BUSTOFF is a BLACK/BUFF. When he is taken to a Black he can throw pure BLACKS. not 100% of the time. There is also examples of BUFFS like TONKA. Again, you can take the darker ones to a purebred Blue and get some that are Blue. I use my BLK/BUFF for one reason. The Buff side is from one of the very best exhibition Orpington breeders there is. I would grow these out a bit IF their from Exhibition lines. IF they are not I would get them a new home and sell them on CL as mixes for $3 each. It is close to Easter and you may find them a good home and then contact a top notch Exhibition Blue Orp breeder here on BYC. There are enough of them here to surely get you a purrebred quality Blue Orp. It costs just as much to feed a HATCHERY quality bird as an EXHIBITION quality. Then you will be happier. Good luck.

Had someone write me last nite and wanted to see a pic of my purebred adult Mottled Orp hen. Had to wait for the rain to stop. I guess they maybe wanting to buy some, but haven't seen any adult pics. I am not selling any eggs, or chicks. Just showing what an adult Mottled Orp should look like. She is from two purebred Black Orps from my Milkey line. Just my only Mottled Orpington hen. Going on three years old.

This pic shows the White pullet I am going to use this coming season with Serpico.
