I will be showing twin tiers poultry show then over to coboskill show..Is fingerlakes show up in saracuse or buffalo? I got some ads this sping..but man it was a rough winter and I had nothing but the rooster in decent shape for that spring show.all of my hens had rooster rough feathers and everything else little too young..once those 5 - 7 month feathers come in they are usually at thier peak..and look thier best.Youve probably posted pics of your birds already, we would love to see them, its always a treat to go tour the birds at the shows..but boy the bath show is also the call duckspecial and the best ravel all across country nwith their ducks to that show..cute ducks but gets to me by the ehd of the day, chatty little guys.

here were the judges at last years show all three of them getting thier pic taken for a newsletter

I thought Jody would get a kick out of this,,,my neighbor came up the other day to pick up a couple australorps that I have been promising him for about 3 years...he calls them... ASTER - LORPS ,,,,hee hee

He also went around to the whole poultry community in this area and told everybody that I got those black heritage turkeys..I siad Oh no Jeff, those are black orpingtons not turkeys, my goodness they are chickens..he thought they were turkeys because they were so large and fluffy for being so young..he said how did you get them so big..I said they come that way..and I wormed them twice.

Jeff keeps a hodge podge of very colorful chickens..he takes fantastic care of his birds..he borrowed the rest of my wormer thinking that was going to happen to his..I just couldnt convince him that they come that way, he thought I was feeding them a secret herb or something

I didn't show last fall. My daughter went off to college & we spent a lot of time driving across the state. After the FFC show - it is here in Syracuse-- my son will be showing at some county fairs with 4-H. I don't plan to show again till the NYS Fair. Then I guess there are 3 shortly after that.

It was a rough breeding season here too. I had planned on showing one of the lavender roos, but the girls picked on them out of revenge...LOL. The white Ameraucana cock lost his tail-feathers scrapping with a cockerel, Dorking boys are both missing too many tail feathers & my best Silkie hen suddenly has no beard! I still have 7 entries -- 1 black Orp, 2 Red Dorkings, 1 white Ameraucana & 3 Silkies. I feel really good about the Orp hen! I'll try to get a better pic of her solo. She's getting a bath & pedi tomorrow.

I'm showing one of these girls:

Really beautiful birds..I just LOVE seeing them..You will have to keep us posted on the show and take some pics for us..I will be going out to the fall shows,,my first is chemung co fair in august..then bath, then coboskill .Im going to chemung co cause my freinds are all showing up there kind of a fun warm up show..I save the best birds for bath and coboskill ..that way I dont wear them out and they just lay around in thier pens..they will keep interested ..My hens just dont look thier best right now, all are molting and rooster rough..rooster molting..the babies should be in thier absolute prime thou by sept show..boy sometimes 2 weeks can make all of the difference..so trying to time it just that way..im hoping to travel with 5 birds, 2 baby orps, 2 baby australorps and hopefully one australorp rooster, last winter just beat us all up, people coming up from the south said we northerners looked like we were working on a chain gang all winter..it was a snow slug fest that just wouldnt end.

this is what we put up with for months

we set the rooster up with his own heat lamp..he wasnt afraid to use it either ,he would come out for a little bit and right back inside

Looks like our yard. Two feet of snow at a time sometimes. Now it's so hot you could cook an egg on the driveway!

So great to see all of these wonderful pictures. Orps are such beautiful birds. It's so nice to see so many people enjoying them.

Aveca, that did make me laugh. I have people ask me all of the time if my orps are turkeys. Too funny! Good luck at the shows to you and tgrlily.

that is just adorable that they all get on your lap like that!!! too cute

Thanks Aveca, they are just the sweetest birds ever. But I wanted to complement you on your birds as they are just GORGEOUS! The way their color sheens (for the lack of a better word) in the light. This was also a huge factor for me in picking the Black Australorp as I love the stark black color with the green/blue sheen that reflects off the feathers. I had saw a picture of some BA's on line here and was immediately in love with the breed on the color alone! Keep up the good work on your birds and good luck on the show circuit!

you know, I cant remember off the top of my head, but when I get a chance, I will get out the flyer from the show and see..one specialised in the callo ducks, one was english americcan specialist, one was bantams and asian, mediteranian..they had thier hands full because there were aaround 1100 birds there..its a really nice show in the middle of wine country, and tons to do while the show is going on, the winerys are right up the street and those big pontoon airplanes land on keuka lake , its quite a show..husband often looses interst quickly in the show so have to take him up to the winerys and town shops..he loves the pontoon boat museum..he just annoyed with the call ducks at about the count of 10.
