Technically yes, I open and remove egg shells before the next few pop in. , I do alot that is not by the book. I candle at the 4th day. I don't pay too much attention to the humidity. As long as it is not too high too long. Let my incubators get filthy and eaten and still use them. Keep my birds way too long before culling. So far I am happy with this hatch. 5 Blues 3 Blacks one fom Tonka my Buff cockerel, and one BC Marans. With still two more Doc eggs and one more Marans egg still to hatch. Only one might be a dud. The other two are alive and chirping their way out. 11 outta 12 to hatch for this batch. And 4 more stuffed foam incubators still going. Very much a fun time of the year.

I am so glad to see some pictures of orpingtons in their "Ugly Duckling" stages. I warn people that get chicks from me about this phase, but it never ceases to amaze me how ugly they can be, and then suddenly blossom into the prettiest thing.

Here's a couple of my favorites. I have another line in the incubator to add to these, and I'm holding my breath for another 2 weeks.

Tori, you blue pullet is really pretty. I love her type. Happy for you that you are getting some new lines. I know what you mean about the ugly stage. I think all chicks go through that. I know when I had silkies they could be so ugly for a while.. I never get tired of watching chicks hatch and i really enjoy looking at them for the first two weeks. Then I am ready for them to grow up to the pretty stage. I still spend nearly and hour everyday most days just in observation mode in my pens.
