I was complaining that none of my buff orps would go broody so I got an incubator and ordered some blue and splalsh eggs of ebay and took some from my flock and put them in the incubator to hatch,in the mean time got rid of the bo rooster because the girls needed to grow back there feathers for the upcomming winter(gets very cold here in northern Maine)My eggs hatched got 11 new babies out of 40 eggs(very dissapointed in the hatch but first time for me).Three days later I get a broody,so she had been broody for two days and i wondered if I could put the babies under her, asked questions on differant forums about doing this becasue she had only been broody two days and this was her first time and the babies were older,no one had tried that before and I had done this a few times but with broodies that had set for at least two weeks and babies that were a day old.So I decided to give it a try and took out only two babies at night said a prayer to keep them safe and worried all night long, got up a 5am to go out and check and all was great,so the next night put the other nine under her and this is the picture, she is a awsome mom!Hope she doesn`t thing all her future hatches will be this easy on her.LOL

Can anyone tell me if this Black Orpington Roo has something wrong with his wings? Is this what they call Split wing? Thanks in advance

looks goofy but could be missing some feathers. the best way to tell it to streach the wing open, if there is a gap at the elbow with feathers curving away both ways then it is. take a photo and I'm sure we'll be able to tell

looks black but there is a chance it is a very dark blue. i see slightly lighter centers in the feathers, that could be the light playing tricks, or that could be the beginnings of lacing on a dark blue bird. I've had a few go like that. I'll try and take some photos later

I came across this interesting approach on making Chocs.

With the various types of birds I have, I may make an attempt using this train of thought

I love the pics folks.
Here are a few of what I am going to play with while I check out this idea in hopes of making a "BROWN" Orp in the future.

I like making these projects from what I have laying around the yard.
Projects are fun!
