Hi all, Im not new to chickens but I'm new to the orpington breed. These are beautiful birds that have caught my eye. Was really surprised at the size of eggs I have recieved for hatching. The more I study different breeds of chickens, it seems each breed requires different feeds. For example Marans need higher protein diet, silkies has problems digesting corn. Can one of the breeders tell me how they feed their orpingtons? I like to take care of my birds the best I know how.

I have a mixed flock-Silkies, Orpingtons, ducks, and turkeys all together. They all get Purina Flockraiser Sunfresh recipe. Never had a problem with any of mine.

So far as I've ever heard, Orps don't need anything special. I'm not a real breeder at all, but I do feed mine a bit higher protien than the 16% just because I want them to get as big as they possibly can. Extra protien won't hurt, it's just wasted. So I could be wasting some but I'll take my chances. I want large. Also, I've read that overall, higher protien helps with egg laying.
