Thelma, the best shot I could manage. She's just finishing her molt, her tail and cushion are still growing back in.

I do Same thing, there is a good article in exhibition poultry I think its this months issue (on line free) about raising large heritage breeds and they first lay down the bones and the requires vits, minerals and protiens, then the muscle, then later on the bulk muscle and feathers for the adult frame..it was telling dont be too quick to cull especially the slow growers like orps...the only thing is, later on when the bird gets older you have to be a bit careful about what kinds of protiens you feed because beleive it or not Chickens can get the gout just like people..with the orps, if you give vitamin B2 from hatch time just a little extra, that helps make toes nice and straight.(bread treats if nothing else in small bits are fortified with B2) .xtra protien makes for super nice shiney feathers for show too..An APA Judge told me last week that wheat makes a molting bird feather out faster..first I had ever heard that..I learn something new every day..

Great info, thanks! I'm going to head over and check out that article. Now if only they'd eat bread. Seriously, they don't like bread. Weird girls.

2 of my oldest Orp girls- I think they are 3 or 4 years old- are soooo heavy. They still get around fine, and one of them is laying almost daily still. But geez- they can really pack on the weight. None of my older girls of other breeds seem to have done that- you cannot tell them from 1 year olds except for the fact that they're never in the nest box.

So happy with my Blue Orp ~ Bonita (my daughter calls her Bonnie)
She started laying last month.

Here's a photo of her, this may be lighting -- the comb looks lighter than usual.

You know you don't have to post avatar sized pictures. We actually LIKE to see the birds.

I know I forgot it was avatar size. I'll post better one's cause there now 9 week's old.
