That's one BIG egg! And really light colored. I have a couple that are laying almost white eggs right now. Shells pretty thin too. Or at least not the real thick that I'm used to.
Seriously, I have 2-3 older hens that lay one or two eggs a week and they are the size of duck eggs. Don't know how the old girls do it...bless their little hearts!
John,
You can go to either UOC site or feathersite poultry and see some pictures of white chicks. I have seen grey colored chicks and yellow colored chicks in the same hatch. Any other colors i have not noticed in my flock.
John, adult white isn't always the same thing if you dig underneath and I have seen this reflected in down color even within the same linebred family. Start crossing two or more different white bred families and there can be a whole lot of different down colors in the brooders. The grey or shaded grey mentioned has been real common in my hatches of both white Cochin and white Orpington largefowl. There was also more down color variation amongst the Cochins than the Orps.
The down color of the breeder's Whites I just recieved eggs from will be gray according to Gayle. And obviously the first out of my Whites has a tinge of yellow. As long as they feather up White is all I care. the APA judges will not be judging downy White Orp chicks at these shows just feathered out birds.
