Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

More than likely a Langshan trait.Look at the SOP. She transposes beautifully over the Langshan female only with shorter, clean legs. That high narrow tail didn't come from an English O bred in the last 25 years, nor did the cut away breast. She bears no resemblance to the rest of your Orps.

You do like to dwell on my pics. hehehe
Have nothing to say about the White which Walt likes. Nothing to say about about the Buff pullet in the same post. What about the SOP with those birds?
I think there is something here you should share with us that encourages you to be so critical of other breeder's (seemingly only my birds on this site) birds when clearly you are not showing any for yourself. And not posting any pics of your birds either.
I do show. Will show this fall. I prefer to hear what a trained APA judge says, at shows, and not someone who goes out of their way to tell others (me only) that they are not breeding to the APA SOP. I do appreciate Walt's critiques. He picks out birds that he likes instead of making negative comments about those he doesn't. Heavens knows there are many many birds on this thread and others that do not meet up with the APA SOP.
From my breeding of these Buffs they too look much different at 8 and 10 months of age. Then they did at 5 months of age.
I too have 3/4's UK birds. When I give them a bath they look like a wedge and not a block. They too have narrow butts.
A good friend and fellow White Orp breeder (Gayle) said this black and any 5 month ole is too young to say any of her traits, or tail angle will not change. She is barely 5 months old.
Not sure what you mean about a "CUT AWAY BREAST". I think of a Rock or Leghorn build when someone says that.
This is no cut away breast. IF you believe it is then your saying Doc Clevenger UNDEFEATED Buff hen has a "CUT AWAY BREAST".

"CUT AWAY BREAST".?

I suppose this is a "CUT AWAY BREAST". too.

I have said before that your whites are really getting there, as are your buffs. This bird is supposed to be the same breed. Therefore the same shape. In the photo of the black P above there is no rounding to the bottom of the breast. Your whites and buffs do have rounding. Look at the bottom of the breasts on the Clevenger birds. They show a rounded bottom to the underline from the point of the breast, not a concave one.

I thought you posted photos for comments. I guess I am just curious as to why you would plan on breeding this pullet to what you say is a faulty bird when you have other ones who are more in accordance with the SOP. You have been very quick to tell newbies to " Just whack that one" as you did with Littlechicklet, and "only breed with your best".

There are photos of my birds on my page. None are ready to show yet, and having shown for years, I'm not in a hurry to show them until I have a few more offspring from the English birds for the future. When I'm ready, I will bring them North as there are very few big APA shows down here.

GALANIE you are right. One should not judge a bird by it's pics. I seen Walt say that and many of my APA judge friends say the very same thing. That is why we show our birds. To hear from an APA trained judge their thoughts. After the show is over one should go and ask questions about what needs to be improved on from the judge. Their the ones with the knowledge, their the ones who handled your birds. IF all we did is go by pics the shows would not be necessary to attended.
I know what she is meaning. And to say that about a 5 month ole bird is way to early to say
"What ever happened to the SOP?" That statement tells alot of what one knows about raising Orps. Gayle says her White Orp cockerel I hatched out in May will continue to grow and improve well into his second year. Gayle and Norm her husband has raised GRAND CHAMP quality birds (Orps) for decades. She knows what she is doing and talking about.
Walt has said more then enough to give everyone the APA's thinking behind the UK Orps when it comes to the APA SOP. I do not need to go on and add to that.
For a 5month ole to have this look at that age says alot for the future of this one pullet. I have raised many Buffs who I thought look horrible at that age only to show them at a 1,500 bird CENTRAL INDIANA POULTRY SHOW with 19 Orps to compete against and they get Champ English. And they looked less at this age.

You have stated you have other lines of Buff orps not just your UK Buff Orps. This was nearly 3 months ago. They for sure are worth showing a pic of and should be near the same ago or older then this one Black Orp pullet.
Please post some pics of your SOP Orps to give me an idea of what I should be breeding towards.

I see stiffer and more tightly feathered bird, with dark eyes, correct wing set, I see the hocks, and do not see a 'CUT AWAY BREAST"
And for sure see traits worth breeding for. This is not a cockerel. I do ONLY use 2 males for now. This is a pullet. That is a different world of culling. MAYBE you use more then 2 males, I only use one White male, One Buff male, 2 Blacks males and no Blues for my standards

Just have a look at my page. I think you'll see some uniformity coming there. None are old enough to show. I have taken very few photos in the last month due to 100+ degree heat here. Instead I have taken care of my birds, and have not lost any.

What page? I do not see a link to any page.
We all take care of our birds. EVEN the very best breeders have lost birds. Patterson lost 10 of his White Wyandottes, Akers has lost 2 of his Buff Orps here in Indiana when it hit 108. These are 2 of the BEST APA breeders out there who win shows.

I am really out of my league and am beginning to see how very difficult it would be to raise champion birds; fortunately, I am just looking for some nice quality birds and will see where it goes from there.

Also the "just whack that one" does not exist in my home. I recall breeders of champion dogs who would go through a litter of just whelped pups & "just whack" the ones they deemed faulty. I have personally witnessed one of these culls (long story as to how it was not culled) grow into a fine example of the breed. IMHO (and its all that matters at my home) many breeders of all types of animals line breed to the demise of the breed.

This being very heated subject & one which could quickly spiral out of control I will add I am a newbie and I appreciate all comments whether I agree with them or not.

Do not take what I say as your own method of culling. I raise for EXHIBITON. Most all the folks here on this site will never show a bird. The 1% who do show have to raise 100 birds up just to get a trio of good EXHIBITON quality birds. EXHIBITON Orps can take up to 18 months to finish growin out.
Culling to some is simply finding a given bird a home. I have found for every 25 pullets I place I place just one cockerel. Your birds are obviously going to be loving pets.
IF you have question in the quality of your birds attend an APA sanctioned show and wait till it is over and ask a judge to critique your birds. Most all judges will not turn down a new to the hobby enthusiast who is interested in improving what they have. IF you have not done it already join the UNITED ORPINGTON CLUB and ask some of the officers what they think of your birds. I know all the officers and find they are as good as many judges and a couple are APA judges. They will be very honest to what you have and help you in any direction you might want to go.
GOOD LUCK.
Bill
