Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

What page? I do not see a link to any page.
We all take care of our birds. EVEN the very best breeders have lost birds. Patterson lost 10 of his White Wyandottes, Akers has lost 2 of his Buff Orps here in Indiana when it hit 108. These are 2 of the BEST APA breeders out there who win shows.
Bill,

Just click on thedragonlady, and you'll get my page. Surely you have one too. Then scroll down for my photos.

I was not inferring anything in saying I had not taken photos of my birds in the heat. I was merely stating a fact that I did not have the time for photography, nor did I want to take photos of birds panting in the heat. The turkey growers here lost 30,000 birds here despite all their best efforts as we have had extremely hot (106-108 ) temps with very high humidity.

I am sorry, I guess by page you meant your default photos. I like most all of your birds. I understand that taking pics is more then just snapping off pics. You have to wait for the bird to give you a good angle.
Still not too sure what your calling a 'CUT AWAY BREAST".
This male of yours to me I would think has no more a well rounded breast then this pullet I have.
To me and how I understand the meaning of 'CUT AWAY BREAST", this cockerel would qualify more so then my pullet. But again I am not an APA judge. And do breed for traits. I do not have the perfect Orp. And am still waiting for the day to say I see one. We will have to agree to disagree about the worthiness of my 5 month old pullet. And hopefully someday we can meet at a show and let our birds decide who is doing the better job

You can't see his breast in this shot. Look at the other one of the pair. The depth and roundness of breast is one of the reasons I bought this pair.Maybe we can meet up at Columbus in a year or so. I've done very well there in the past.

I have shown at the Ohio Nationals too. Prolly will go again this year.
I only see 8 photos. And is this the same male? This is the only other pic with a cockerel in your default photos This pic says it was taken in May. Again too young to make a call on where he will finish up. You really need to wait till 7 or 8 months at a minimum with these birds

That's the same male at 12 weeks. You can see how round his keel/breast bone is. He was quite thin then.He is making a huge wide bird.Compare this shot with the group shot of 5 taken of him in left rear at 15 1/2 weeks. This boy has a home. There is another Cockerel, "Zipper", 12 weeks, in that shot also. Also a very broad boy.

Yeah he looks much better now then when that May pic was taken. I have one of Gayle's White Orp cockerels I hatched and am growing out. She said to give him alot of time and he will be like his a daddy a 14 lbs monster. Right now he is at that gawky stage. Not too attractive a time to have a bird. Same can be said about that May pic of your boy. They need time to grow out and then it is decision time. I have learned to not be too quick to ax a bird with Orps unless there is an obvious defect like lite eye, or crossed beak. Anything else can change in a short few months.

As said before these two boys are not to the SOP ideal. So, I must remind those to what is important. If I may quote what Gayle told me on the phone this afternoon "You breed the way you want to breed."
WHEN you have a bird with the flaws that Vicki pointed out you take them to an appropriate extreme opposite to produce the desired result.
So since Vicki said I have a Black pullet with way too high a tail angle, and even though I disagree about the 'CUT AWAY BREAST" I do agree her tail angle is higher then what is desired, I will take my pullet to these 2 boys next season.
Sorry their not UK Orps, but what I made with my birds. And even younger then my pullet.
Both have too low a tail angle and both have the desired FULL ROUNDED BREAST and width and depth to correct any of the pullet's flaws that is perceived to be a reason to cull her.
T-BONE

Pork Chop.
And we now know you can't "STOP THE CHOP"!

showing chickens should be fun and relaxing..it is a food product..it shouldnt be so hard, and maybe more people would go out and enjoy shows if there wernt so much unwarrented arrogance, and everyone is just a string under somone elses goodyear baloon.. it doesnt matter if i win or loose , i have met life long freinds there and wont quit for any reason.there is nothing in the world like a huge Bob W bear hugg at a show...i have done pleanty of both (winning and loosing)..as have othere people here..some of these additudes are the reason certian breeds are having to be re- created in the first place..they are not being promoted, people are turned off by the smuggness..once you get in the ring, its a competition, once your out of that ring..not necessary to be horrible to people and a big braggioso....people get started then get discouraged because of lack of help and supporting each other..i am a person who frankly doesnt care what anyone thinks..im going to buy and breed birds that appeal to me...and enjoy every minute of the shows.
vickie you come on up and stay right in this cabin when your ready and go on the tour de force chicken showin, from rochester to sayracuse to buffalo to coboskill to ohio..MD has some nice ones
a little finger lakes wine tour inbetween..your a wonderful person, my birds recently were trashed by somone ut hum, its Ok for some people to comment on peoples birds but somone comment on thiers and look out, can dish it out but cant take it.. and do I care what they think?...not for one second, it just shows tremendous insecurity and a constant need to reflect that .

Mine are a little young this year too Vickie, got a late start due to work schedule..Thou very big . I will always put the health and welfare of them first, thou things can happen in a blink , like a freinds show flock was just wiped out by racoon attack..that band of marauders opened cages that I had a hard time opening....we are all consoling her right now..so sad , she put so many years into her flock...I still have med water out because the blue is still recovering from racoon attack..thou despite huge scare under wing , you would never know anything happened..everytime I straighten that temp stomp fence up, a strong storm blows through and blows tree branch bits into it..I cant wait to get that permanent fence built. some of the ones I have arnt gonna get whacked..Cost way too much and I like them way too much..

Vickie, how are the chicks you hatched from our eggs developing for you?
Jim,
I am very pleased at the way the chicks I got from your eggs.As you know, 5 out of the six eggs hatched, the 6th was dented. They are truly very large,BROAD and deep, typy birds with very nice temperments, and plenty of common sense. There is a photo of 2 of the Ps and the K on my default page in a group shot, with the two English birds in the rear. All four pullets are very pretty golden girls, but one is really turning into a smasher. As soon as this heat breaks, I'll try to get some decent photos. Wish we were closer, I'd like a few more pullets like these!
