That does not mean that they evolved. you can't use a photo of a bird to use, because you don't know if it is a good one unless you know what they are supposed to look like. I can take apart any picture of any breed because there are no perfect birds. If it had a comb like that it was incorrect and it further bolsters my arguement that you can't just look at pictures. That comb is wrong and the backline is wrong. There is no way to justify those faults.

walter, that is why Im asking..show me the money..I dont understand as much from a bunch of words knitted together..give me a picture..as you can see by mr beetle, they have evolved..tails dropped lower, straighter back ect...ect...in his day, this was the gold standard..there is nothing to go by today....

Dave sent me his pic. I believe this bird has the comb Walt likes, and the backline which meets the SOP. Again especially with a Black & White pic, you can not tell IF the color is spot on. Wattles maybe a smidge too big. But I would not kick this Orp out if it was dropped into my yard. hahaha
This is a 1946 Buff Orp

That is pretty much it although the feather quality in the tail looks like it may not be up to par. The comb is not what I like it, is what the SOP describes, although this comb is not perfect either. Note.....you can see the legs on this bird and it does not appear to have too much fluff.

Ralph Brazelton had a copy of the Orpington Standard copied off that he kept in his barn. He suggested to me once to keep a photo of the Schiling Orpingtons up in my coop. Man taht fellow could breed Orpingtons. Perfect type and 200+ eggs a year!

FYI: Walt's avatar is a Brazelton Orpington.

Another FYI: Jerry Foley and a few friends are working on both Chocolate Wyandottes (B/LF) and Orpingtons at the same time. Jerry may beat everyone to the finish line!

I didn't understand the post, your grammar and sentence structure is not as clear as you think it is. You have the picture that Dave K posted. That is good enough. just think of it as black or whatever color you want. It is not perfect ....it is a photo of an actual bird and has not been retouched, so it is not perfect.

He is still alive, but I don't think he has any birds. There are some of his birds around though and the ones I see in the shows have really bad wing carriage. Mostly the females. The longer they are in the show, the more their wings drop.
