crappy rainy day for the Black orp gang today on there free range day..
they stayed inside there coop for most of the day.. ques i will let them range tomorrow as well..however the hummers were still working hard in the rain...

I've got Blue Orp. bantams hatching tomorrow! 2 pips right now. I had 10 eggs and sadly, I'm down to 4. Sure hope they all hatch. I'll post pics when they do.

From the wilds of NY to the Wilds of Pa. ..What a wonderful little farm, love the hex sign too... cute..a comfortable little chicken coops.
We had the deluge of rain too. had a poultry meeting in bath NY tuesday , showed up and they had changed the date to sunday so they could have a BBQ... so back up sunday.. NY is different from Pa with the pullorum tests and the guy in our area who does that has some health problems so I need to get somone lined up by next month. Its a lot of work but so much fun...I'll be showing against the east coast champion australorps owned by bob and denise whitleny so Im going to be very nervous but they just keep saying just show up and have fun thats what its all about . they have 2 schools of thought going on in thier breeding - showing pens, the older smaller tighter feasthered australorps and the bushey orpington type so cant wait to see them. my hen is more of the older type tighter feather .they actually show both types depending.

. they are really interested in the adding black buff orps back into the australorps to correct some problems..So we will have a lot to talk about....they have some champion langshans too they travel all over east coast showing APA shows.Told him about my husband and the hospital and the hatching tragety but got 2 out of the ordeal...so hopefully might see some decent results next year we will see.

heres my humble chicken coop there is a rooster hut behind it smaller version of this ...we call it ambush alley because we are on the edge of state game land.. fox, fisher, coy dog, bears, hawks and assorted things that eat chcikens stalking around out there..I play the radio now to keep from loosing any more when they are out of thier cage brousing around.

I just lost 2 good hens, they like to follow me up to the garden and dig around while Im taking care of weeds..then they follow me back down..they were all with me on the way up, and I noticed on the way back one was missing, I never heard a thing, whatever grabbed her was very good at what it does because it never raised the attention of the other hens...same thing happened about 2 weeks later so I quit taking them up the trail..I go up there befor I let them out.

aveca nice set up there.. looks like some happy birds out in the mess. Very well could have been a fox, yote maybe a large aerial pred.. ours they wouldn't even step foot out into the rain.. Our property to is attached to game lands, The great Blue Mountains.. but it is land locked for miles and no access, but i like it that way because i hunt and trap and have it all at my finger tips 1000's and 1000s of acres, just walk across our pasture right up onto to it....however the preds must cross the pasture to get to our chicken pens that is what i call my surprise zone....dont see much coming across it anymore, all of there hunting is only at night, which everything is locked up tight, so no free chicken meals here..lol, just piles of lead for them..

This is my only Lavender Orp pullet, I named her Cabbage.

I'm hoping to find a cockerel for her and start breeding my own Lavs. She's from eggs that were shipped to CA by Tony. I traded an extra Blue Wheaten Ameraucana cockerel I had for her. She's a little over 2 months old. What do you think?

Next to my BW boy for some color comparison.

Don't mind the blurry BW Ameraucana.

Here is our girl, from relative newborn to taken today! She is supposed to be a White Orpington, and her name is Ophie (named after one of my SO's aunts. We don't like her a whole lot, but we like the pullet!)


And these are either buff orpingtons or buff wyandottes, do you know which?
(I know, these are not good pics, apparantly I deleted the others that I had! Will try to get better ones)

Urban.......beautiful girl! If you could get your hands on a nice, black Orp cockeral from Bama's flock or Hinkjc's flock, I think you could make gorgeous babies! Of course, it would take 2 generations to get there, but I think the time would be worth it in the end.
