Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

After a week or so of hit and miss laying, she'll probably lay about 30-40 eggs, pretty much 1 every day, until she has laid about 35-40 eggs. She will then want to go broody. You can stop that, and she will resume laying another 35-40 eggs. Then let her sit. The US SOP Orps lay a little better because of not so much Cochin blood. Bella's eggs will get larger and larger, the longer she lays. Don't hatch those little first pullet eggs. The chicks will be very small.

I bet she'll be a good Mum too.
How can you stop them from "going" broody?, I am looking to acquire orpingtons (buff),and have been told they are so "broody", that I may want to look at a different breed-I don't think so, lovem' too much!-, so, if I can understand how to help keep this from happening as much, maybe I will be able to "enjoy" the eggs a little more. I do not have any birds at this time, but am looking, so that I may start things in the spring. Thank you for sharing your experience.

I have a2 hole 24" x 48" show coop on my main coop wall. Anytime a hen goes broody too early, she is put in that for 4-5 days...until she stops clucking. Works like a charm.

Don ... the new rooster now named.. Streaker and hens are settling in nicely. I will try to get some pictures tomorrow.

Thank you Don,

They are lovely.
