Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

OK

1. They look in good weight, they look healthy. Good job

2.The buffs hens look like a uniform color I am not so sure about the buff roo, it is really hard to tell you do not have good pictures of the roo, the blacks have nice uniform color. I like some of the detail in the black feathering.

3. I like the nice round head on the first buff. The wing looks weird in the picture and I am sure if it is just movement during picture taking.
On the blacks..I like the birds heads that I can see, they look nice and wide from front and back.

Structure is almost impossible to guage with these pictures. I like some of the nice round fronts that I can see. Better pictures would help.

I hope you get tons of feed back from many others...

If I have some sun tomorrow I will try to get some better pics. My girls are all the uniform buff. My rooster is huge but is more orange on top. My blacks the only thing I notice is a couple of random white feathers on wing tips. I have one black pullet that looks like she has some blue? lacing on her lower feathers. She also has a half black half white beak so I know she is not a standard quality. Oh and we have constant wind so it might be hard to get them with all their feathers laying where the should.

My new 14 week old Mauve Orpington bantam :)

She's called Violet

I wouldn't worry about the white tips on the wing feathers yet. They may molt out. The top orange color on your Roo will not change, but your buff pullets are a pleasing color. See if you can't get some better photos from the side and rear.

Is the body shape so different between the english standard and the american standard?
The 2 standards are almost identical except for the tail angle. They used to be identical until after WW1. Somehow our standard was changed to the lower tail set of 25 degrees for cocks, 15 degrees for hens. The British standard calls for a 45 degree tail set.

The English birds have more profuse feathering that the SOP birds. This is noticable in EO chicks, as they require less heat than SOP chicks do.There are many birds winning in England today who do not fit the British standard. They are too profusely feathered, showing the infusion of Cochin blood. Orps legs and hocks should be visable.

Probably the most noticable difference in the EO and SOP birds, is the depth of keel (breastbone) in the EOs. Their chests fill your hand as chicks. Once you have felt that, you won't forget it. It makes for a very deep body with no cut away to the bird's front. This is important as the Orp is supposed to be a dual purpose bird who will dress out as a full breasted roaster, after their egg laying days are over.
