Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Just getting my early misfit White Orp program going. I let this oddball hen in with my White trio that I got from a fella at the Ohio Natls. He had this line for decades. No longer you can call it a Cecil Moore lines. But still have to give credit to Cecil for sharing.
She is an unknown quantity. I have a couple of chicks from here that are leaning towards being White with the same dark feathers on the tails and hackles. Would be nice if they turn out like a Columbian. Long ways to go. I just put her in with one of my 13 Buff cockerels. So, no more White experiment for her.

White male I had her with for a couple of months. IF these chicks from her and this guy start looking good I will use the pullets back to the male.

Harry's A #1 cock's first born. Looking like a little Shaffer line White boy. He would be from a Fuesting Buff Sport hen I got last year. I am to get 2 more Buff Sports. Joyce's Buff cock is the daddy who sired these Buff Sports hens. He was Grand Champion of the Junior Class for 2 strait years here at our Indiana State Fair Poultry Show. So, there is some chance of making something special from Harry's cock this season.
A solid little Shaffer boy. This widdle guys grand daddy is Harry's 13 lbs White Orp cock. Loads of potential!

She is pretty :)

Thought I would share some pictures of my 100% English Buff Orpingtons.... only posted that part because I will be crossing my big boy, Midas with some lovely American SOP pullets acquired from Don Chandler.. but they aren't laying yet...

I hope they turn out as well as mine have Renie. Everyone seems to be pleased. Thanks to Mark for giving us the needed new blood lines !

Some Orp breeders don't even use perches for their birds.
Is not having perches good for their legs, and feet? Does roosting on the floor affect the quality of their chest feathers? Some of my birds wanted to stay on the floor, and I had to train them to perch. Should I have just let them sleep on the floor?

I've been told, and I think it's true, that they never actually fly over anything. What they do is fly to the top, land, then jump down the other side. I was able to keep my EE pullets out of my side garden by stringing a weedeater line 4" above the top of the fence. They can't land on that, so they quit flying over it.

And yes those orps are funny that way. Mine can fly up to the top of this 4' fence if they've a mind to, but they never do when grown. Younger ones though will do it. I had a pair of orp pullets that constantly "snuck out" into the neighbors yard for a while. Darn things were jumping the fence in the back where I couldn't see them do it from the house, and because of their shop, I didn't see them next door either. Someone finally told me they were doing that and I strung a line over that fence too. It worked.
This is a very helpful info., thank you!!!! Several months ago, mine decided to spend part of their day perched on our front gate which is worrisome because if they get on the road, they may get hurt. I tried everything that I can think of; but, never thought of using weed-eater line. I used ribbons, aluminum foil balls, different shape objects, and finally painting it disturbingly glittery, blinding bright red! Two of my neighbors asked me why did I suddenly grew interest in decorating our gate; ohhhhhh, so embarrassing.... and nothing worked!
I will go to the hardware store first thing in the morning to buy the line.

By way of instruction for others, please critique these two. Whatever you say won't hurt my feelings one bit! I know of their faults but please point out any faults with overall build, skirts, lacing, anything at all. It does teach when you do that and even though I've posted these same birds before, every time someone critiques them I learn something new. I'll not be breeding either one as I'm going to buffs! Oddly enough, both are over a year old now and have never been broody! Strange.

The pictures are both from last year. The first is actually my avatar bird, and the second is her "sister" and her.

I would like to critique, if I may. Most likely, I will be embarrassingly wrong; but will be very good test for me. Please do excuse my mistakes.

On the first photo: The angle of her top line is not correct? Towards the end it levels almost parallel to the ground?
Her top skull is too high? or perhaps her eyes set too low?

On the second photo: the chest bone is not big enough? Lacking the big round chest? and too level of a top line?

And if you like, here's my black hen. When this was taken, she had been broody a while so she's a bit raggedy and her sheen isn't there much, besides having the pale comb, etc.

And just because this picture makes me laugh every time I see it, and i just saw it, here is the same hen when she was broody. This is the sight I saw one morning when opening the coop.

Awww! I really like her, so sweet!

I have never seen a bird in this position. It took quite a while of looking at it to finally figure out what she was doing, and then couldn't stop laughing! Definitely an award winning photo. She is standing on her head : ) Priceless!!!

There are number of beautiful golden babies in this thread. As soon as my babies can be transferred into the garage, I would very much like to purchase 3 golden Orps. Number of Buff Orps. in this thread are simply stunning! Feels like I am in a candy shop..

My only Orpington-22 week old "Satin" with her stable mate Summer, is this thread the best one for learning about Orp's

Yes! both for me(a novice), and for the fellow Orpington fancier with good number of beautiful birds in, N.CA., it is THE best thread to get educated on everything Orpington. There are number of highly valued, successful breeders with immense knowledge, and experience in this thread. It is a privilege to be on this thread, and learn from the best or the very best....Good luck to you with your birds.

I certainly will have some :)

The birds will do just fine on the floor of the coop as long as you keep it relatively clean. I have some that perch and some that are soo big they feel more comfortable on the floor. It is up to them where they want to sleep.

Thank you... I work hard to keep them clean... they are all in my dog room which leads right into my house... dont want them to be dirty or make the house smell like a barn .
