Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

I kept 2 Cuckoo pullets from last season. This one I am taking to the White Orp cock. Hoping to get her size with the refined look of this new White cock I have. She is a very large pullet and lays very large eggs. That is one trait I want in all of my varieties. Rite now she is in with a "FREE" Dick Dickerson Cuckoo Marans cock I got at Crossroads. OSUMAN and I were walking thru the sales area rite near the end of the show and Dick called us over. He had 10. I took one.

I have one of Fred's hens who is laying. Luckily for me she is the best of the two I got from Fred last winter. I had to pull my starting number one $20 Akers cock out since he is at that age where the urgency to reproduce has slowed down. So, as I mentioned I put in his son who has this hen laying fertile eggs. She was roosting on the wire fence, now she is roosting in one of these tree containers I have in the pen with them. Every nite now I have to pull her out and put her in the coop And she is a solid 10 lbs hen. When shipped to me 14 months ago she was at 9.5 lbs. She is at least a 1/2 lbs bigger. Or more like 2 lbs bigger. Fred's girls did not give me many eggs last year. Don she has laid at least 30 eggs so far this season. Hope she lays at least another 20 more. The back on the boy is not as long as his daddy. but he is barely 10 months old if that.

This is the other Fred hen in with them. She is not laying yet. Which is fine. I rather know I am breeding my best hen. And soon the ole cock will be going back in with these 2 hens.

For now I have my extra hens and my Akers Buff pullet in my #2 Buff breeding pen with another son of the ole cock.

I do have 13 Buff cockerels in addition to the one Akers cock. These are 3 of the Akers cockereks I hatched out in early June of last year. There not from Doug's best breeders but are definitely nice and good boys to use. I have 4 of my Buff pullets that I plan to use them with this season. One boy on the right will be in a large pen with the rest of the cockerels. Most likely he will not be used and will be culled.

My bigger cuckoo cockerel is not my best quality of the 2 Cuckoo boys I have. But he is already over 11 lbs and is around 10 months old

I will be most likely showing my older Black hens I got from our UOC Secretary 4 years ago. She was the reason I joined BYC. This is the younger of the three I got. This is the type and tails I am wanting more of in my flock.

Feran has the longer back that I like. A bit loosely feathered. With girls like the hen above I can get some with both of the better traits.

Yosemitee is is giving me fertile eggs too from the #2 Black pen. Alan told me he liked the potential in this pen over Feran's pen. The cockerels I have out this early with the colder weather we have had is a good thing. The frozen combs will prevent me ever from showing them. So their just for utility and breeding and not for looking at.

Very nice my freind. That Cuckoo of yours looks just like my LITTLE BILL

I Took that Cuckoo cockerel to Connorsville IN Show and Doug said I could put him in a cage that was empty. More as a joke to see what the judge said. I watched and seen the judge say what? The coop card was removed I walked up and said he was my bird after he was done judging. He said "when your done, send him my way for my Doms". Apparently size matters. lolol I also like the long back on that Black pullet. She is near 6 months old. Little leggy, so I may take her to Yosemitte's brother. Or to Feran. Feran has a nice wide tail and his hens are getting beyond their laying years. He is due for some new blood. Nothing like a nice wide back.

Oh how beatiful orpington pics here is. Orpington has stolen my heart and I took orpingtons because they are so good at incubating and caring for chikcs. Here are my orpingtons :)

And here's chicks that hatched 4. march

LOL! She is a real character, that's for sure. So far as I'm aware, that ear lobe is about it, though she does "almost" have a bit of a cushion just before the tail.

Hi Galanie,

Would you please tell me what is a cushion, and where is it? I have a feeling that you are not referring to the cushions on your couch : ) How does a correct ear lobe should look like?

Thank you!

I wish it wasnt so darned cold out..Almost the first day of spring and its freezing!! Not really normal temps all month, well below normal..it should be 50 and its 20.

I did find these little gems in the baby buff pen and a couple in another pen..so suprise..early easter eggs.

BFF'S

I had to throw a little food outside to lure them out..its just too cold!
