Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Have fun....
Sorry Jon.
Doug said his White Rock do not have Brassiness. Harry says his Cuckoos clean out the Brassiness. I have a choice of who to believe. Harry, Doug, Marvin or what you are telling me. I guess I will have to hatch out 50 and hope for one Silver to find out. None of my Whites from last season I hatched from Ron Patterson's White Wyandotte have brassiness. Ron bred in Doug White Rocks. So, just from my own experience I am using him.

Quote: Interesting..I actually like this bird.

You are going to do what with this color?
Make a silver and breed it to a white orp to remove yellow?
I understand silver is needed as a base to make pure whites that stay white eventually. Your plan is a plan. How many years do you need to make a silver from starting with these? Than how many years do you need to reproduce the silver to make it a phenotype-genotype map to breed to the whites? I understand the concept of making 50 chicks and the possibility of a silver being thrown, but, don't you need to make two of them and breed them together first? Than do the same to the whites? I really am interested in this. It seems a huge undertaking and tons of money in feed alone. I give you credit for doing this. I am lazy and would just go find one. Good for you.

Hey Jon I was just on the "lets talk Cuckoo Marans" thread. A very nice lady (Nicol) called the Dickerson Marans cock that I got at Crossraods, the one you with with me when he flagged us over is a Silver Cuckoo. That sorta makes sense. Harry said he thought he was a Silver. I wanted the Silver gene to use with some White Orps. Thought I would share this with you. Knowledge is Good!

Dickerson cock I got while with ya at Crossroads and that is his daughter right of him

Yip that is a Silver Cuckoo Buddy. Very nice.

Hard to beleive Jim would have a English bird. He sure said the English birds was screwing up the US orps. Now he got some English blood. Glory be!!

I'm right there with you Don. Funny how some people say this and that about their chickens and the next thing you know they are trying/ to get their hands else's line that said that they would never have. How funny is that. Ah the Buffs are coming along great. I have some English in the Bator now. The young Cocks are looking very nice.

Delisha your looking at the Cuckoo Marans pics I posted. The Cuckoo Orp pic I posted is the one who I will try and make a go for something solid. According to Marvin, who is rite up there with henk69 far as genetics goes, says solid Buff, solid Black, and most importantly solid White is possible. White is what I after. If you read what Marvin said I can get a Silver from the breeding of this male to my Buff Columbian pullets. So, one generation. Or a year to be able to use a Silver offspring IF one pops out this season.
Jon I was chatting with Harry he made a valid point that I will ask Alan next time he emails me. Harry said why would Alan make Cuckoos if not to use with his Whites. Harry knows Alan better then me. I have to go for it. IF this Cuckoo was a White I think many White Orp breeders would appreciate his physical traits.

There is a big difference between taking Cuckoo to whites to clean them up and taking a cuckoo to Buff Columbians and expecting to get a white, and by cuckoo I mean a clear pure silver cuckoo. Your cuckoo looks like it has some type of pattern underneath the barring.

So Jim with all this talk about your new cockerel what exactly is his bloodlines???

We lost our Buff Orpington males to an act of vandalism in September 2012. Vickie offered a cockerel from our own line pullets crossed with an imported European/Continental Buff Orpington that Marc Sarce imported. This cockerel is being bred back to his aunts and grandmother. It was not our first choice, but became our only choice. We deeply appreciate the generosity of Thedragonlady! Her Monty appears in photos to fit the SOP. We will cull very close to the SOP. Vickie is also breeding to the SOP. We would have preferred to stay with our own line, but nothing was available but Junior. So far he meets the Standard. That is all we can ask or hope for.

On a side note, we have moved our livestock to a very secure location and added a new 200# livestock guardian dog. They will be safe now!
