You really need to contact Henk69 the fellow that created the Chicken Calculator. Are you sure they do not have a wheaten with silver base (that is not a visual silver bird I am talking about it is a chicken of a different color) and some other dilutes. Remember recessive white will cover any color combintation so the birds you have could or could not be split recessive whites. They are definately a buff with extra genes to dilute the buff color. Good luck they look nice.

Harry, I hatched some out from last year's 2 Buff Sports with your White orp male. Most all of the cockerels do not have a tinge of Buff. But one does. He is a big one too.

I really love my orps. they follow me like little pups. when I sit down with them they crowd into my lap. Thank you for allowing me to be on your list. I do have a question. In chickens the color denotes type is this correct? When people breed one color to another is this the same as breeding to a different breed should this not be done? I have buffs. and I need a male . Do I buy a Buff male for my hens or may I purchase another color such as black or blue to compliment the color. Is type more important than color or is a good bird a good bird no matter what the color is.

Type refers to the SHAPE of the bird. Type makes the breed. Color makes the variety. If you have Buff hens, stick to a buff cock bird.
Do you own a Standard of Perfection published by the American Poultry Association ? This book is something every breeder needs to own. It will answer many of your questions, and show you how each variety of a breed should look.

We would breed to the top dog we could find and only under very special circumstances would we look at color as I am sure you know. Doy remember C.Z.He was bred to almost every color and produced very nicely. I remember a party color who was super nice and winning in all over the country. He too was bred to everything including solids and produced some very nice pups. With this as my only field of refferences I did not know until now Thanks to you That with in chickens I need not only to look for quality but color and type . Thank You so very much.

What breed are we talking about here ? Cockers ? Think of your Buffs as Golden Retrievers. I mean the golden ones, not some of the almost white ones being bred.

lildinkem........ your orps color is what we call in Golden retrievers as a "CREAM" or "PALE", mostly English bred Golden Retrievers are that color. I imported 4 of them, the breeding to keep that color is to breed cream to cream to get cream, bred to a (darker) gold color will be a darker cream/pale or dark with no light colors. Now cream/pale bred to a white/lighter color (white side)....majority will be white, with a cream, pale.....no dark. Curious if that would be the same in chicken colors?

Dunno VIVI. I know if their taken to a White Orp male they will make White Orp chicks.
